Varadi
Interesting that the poll on the article asking whether we should keep him is about 50/50 - thought he still had wider support than that in the general fanbase.
Ronaldo
I've got the popcorn out eagerly awaiting Ronaldo's response to this! Fabricio Coloccini is one of the Premier League's only 'proper leaders', says Newcastle head coach http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fabricio-coloccini-one-premier-leagues-8739264 In this case I'll not bother. Everyone on here (except you and a couple of others) knows it's an idiot defending a cowardly shithouse.
Stifler
Colo is past it and you never see him commanding the team, he's only the captain because no else in the squad can command either.
buzza
Would've loved to see colo and albert together, bringing the ball out in style and their different defensive types would have complemented each other perfectly...
Ronaldo
He's captain because he's an extension of the 'yes sir, whatever you say sir' attitude prevalent at board, management and coaching level. Nolan wasn't, and was sold.

Guest
I thought Nolan was offered a contract but turned it down because West Ham offered a longer one?

Ronaldo
If you can think of another reason, I'd love to hear it. Not that you'll ever come up with one. His best mate Jonas publically complained about Pardew's treatment of him when diagnosed with cancer and a week later Colo was in the paper defending Pardew's position as team manager. That's the type of person he is: he takes his money and does what he's told whether he thinks it's right or wrong. Leaders don't do that, but a captain who'd question those above is about as likely at NUFC as a manger who complains about players being sold. Elliottman
Nolan was sold because they found a better replacement in cabaye. Colo was the natural successor at the time, there was no argument about it at the time.
Ronaldo
And why has he retained the armband despite lack of on-field leadership being a ludicrously glaring problem for years now? He's perfect for them, man. Just as Carver is and Pardew was. Men with no real self-respect.

He's perfect for them, man. Just as Carver is and Pardew was. Men with no real self-respect. He probably is perfect for them but there hasn't exactly been a load of players threatening to take the armband away from him, in fact I can't think of one. Ronaldo
Cabaye, Debuchy, Williamson to name 3 all take/took more responsibility for leading the team. Off the top of my head, so I'm sure there's more.
Elliottman
The same cabaye who cried when we wouldn't sell him to arsenal? Great leader. Although the only one I'd agree with you with. Williamson ffs.
nemtizz
Janmaat clearly hates Obertan so I say give him the armband. Speaks good English IIRC, too.
Segun Oluwaniyi
Colback, if still here and around the first team, will be captain when Coloccini leaves, retires, or expires.

Williamson ffs. Williamson tells him what to do, man. As utterly shit as Mike Williamson is he's the only one who tries to take responsibility for organising the defence. Mick
Cabaye, Debuchy, Williamson to name 3 all take/took more responsibility for leading the team. Off the top of my head, so I'm sure there's more. He seemed to be organising the defence today and he played well and is one of the reasons that we won. He's not the player he was but he is still capable of doing a good job like today, even if it was against a poor team.
Ronaldo
He often has good games against strikers who don't score goals. Today was certainly one of them.
