There was 2 points to his interview:

1) Convince fans things will change next season.

2) Stop the ashley out campaign.

literally don't give a f*** about him spending on players until he or someone appoints a proper manager, coaching and medical team

until then it's pointless

Exactly.

Until he realises that the manager is the most important individual at the club and should be the number 1 priority when he talks about his "investment" we're on a hiding to nothing. Spending loads on quality players is completely negated by having a gormless c*** like Carver in the dugout working with them everyday.

He simply doesn't understand. He's the type of bloke I'd imagine solves problems by throwing money at it and it doesn't quite work like that when it comes to running a football club.

what always got me about Pardew and the 'transfer system' they have in place was that Pardew was always fighting against it as well...he was a somewhat competent manager (compared to say carver) but because he didn't believe in the system of being handed players he went out of his way to f***ing hamstring himself by either dropping them, playing them out of position, or forcing them out of the club....or all three

then we get carver who will do what he's told so the system is irrelevant, he just happens to be utterly incompetent

M'Biwa.

Clearly never fancied him from the off and only played him when he absolutely had to. M'biwa didn't have the best of starts over here but there was no point in signing him if the manager was barely going to play him. Just need to get their heads together and talk it out.

Then again it's all moot because under Ashley making a profit on players appears to be the main/only reason they come in at all. Until the needs of the team come before the needs of the balance sheet then we're all fighting a losing battle. Well, all of us apart from 1 individual...

Except you can't generate profit if the players don't perform. Ashley's lost money on Santon, Yanga-Mbiwa and Ben Arfa, and probably stands to make further losses on Tiote, Gouffran and possibly Cisse. It honestly baffles me how Ashley continues to fatally undermine the importance of appointing a progressive, open-minded manager capable of working within the club's structures - it's essential, be it for getting results or generating profit off player sales

The whole thing needs tying together to meet the needs of the team and squad. Parts of it are there but it's never going to work with a moron for a manager.

At the end of the day, the fact he's come out and actually said something is a huge sign that the respective campaigns against him are beginning to cause some concern. Kudos to the AO guys.

Just making my way through this thread but this is absolutely spot on. 'Rattled' doesn't even begin to cover it.

Yep, he's done the one thing he didn't want to do, doubtless on the advice of Keith Bishop in the hope it will make him appear human/genuine.

Actually think the vast majority will see straight through it.  It's definitely a goal for AO rather than the other way around.

What a ridiculous statement (Cunning Linguist). It's the first time he has done anything in the public eye and it's solely down to the fact ticket sales are likely to drop and his asset was likely to severely depreciate in value. In fact it probably still will unless he follows up on his promises of investment, which in itself is unlikely because they're all lying c***s - him and his bum-bandits.

AshleyOut have increased media attention if nowt else and now the whole footballing world is waking up to Mikes twattery. So that in itself says they've done a good job.

Ridiculous? - Bit Harsh

I am pretty sure that EVERYONE is aware what he is like, AO have just been the ones to be more  Vocal about it all as most of the other media will just pussy foot around trying not to upset the club.

The next 12 months will be a key indicator as to what his intentions are. We can all sit here and say he is a lying C*** or we can say that he is telling the truth but in reality we will not know.

Okay, maybe it was. It's because of those guys though that questions are being asked. He would never have come out if questions weren't being asked and people wouldn't be considering jacking it in half as much if it wasn't for this increased media attention and statistical analysis that AO provides.

Ultimately, it is the club and it's lack of form doing most of the damage and creating the cause for Ashley's concern, but you certainly cannot dismiss the efforts of the campaigners.

Definitely not going to dismiss the efforts of the campaigners.

Unfortunately, Ashley is well known for his secrecy (as we are all aware) and I this is definitely not good practice for an owner of a football club, This interview should have happened 8 years ago and we would not have found ourselves in this situation as the media would have jumped on him way before now.

I really want there to be light at the end of the tunnel but i am (very) cynical.

He clearly believes what he's saying in the interview - the words and the body language are perfectly synchronized, and that's not something you could be quickly trained to do. Looking up when he's remembering; when he's talking about finances he's pushing his hands forward; nodding nodding nodding about winning something. There's even something of a proud smirk on his face when he's obviously fantasizing about actually winning something and being vindicated, and again when he mentions the Champions League. At the end he's indicating distance when he says he won't appoint the manager.

Of course, he could be totally deluded to a level where he even cons himself ...

KB must have said to him...For FFS you have to at least look like you care!

Camera cutting to his wooden acting when we missed those chances.

They really must think we're muppets.

Most of the fans are fucking muppets.

That interview was entirely phoney.

A. It was with David Craig

B. Trotting out (:pow:) cliches about horses and carts

C. No emotional reaction whatsoever from Craig when Ashley said he wasn't going

D. Most of what Ashley said was clearly rehearsed

E. He didn't look remotely as if he wanted to be there

The whole thing was just his latest play in the PR war between AshleyOut.com and Mike Ashley. But the fact he's broken personal policy by going on TV proves he is rattled. The interview itself was intended for his benefit only; in the face of what is happening - it was worth it to him to appear human. But things are changing, if only on a PR level. Change is good, however small.

What did Carragher say?

The fact is, the fans have forced him in front of a camera, while the whole league was watching.

He clearly hates speaking in public, he looked uncomfortable to me. Of course none of the fans believe a word he says.

It's different this time, people (the media) will remember his words and he will be eating them very quickly if he fails to deliver.

It's not about next season, it's about this summer and who is the next manager, signings etc.

By the start of the season he could already be under intense scrutiny.

I now think this whole interview was a smug "f*** you" to those against him, AO, MOAC etc. Not going anywhere until we win something is him openly mocking us, he runs the club to not win things and we never win things anyway.

This is how I read it too.

Just seen Niall Quinn and Alan Smith on SSN talking about Ashleys comments. Both of them taken in by him, claiming 'this could be a turning point' and 'the first sign of his intentions for the club'... aye, only the 8 years after buying it??!!

If the rumours are true that Carver will be confirmed tomorrow, then the only intention for next season can be relegation.
