how come we have signed him before the window then ? I mean, i know this happens most recently Bayern with Shaqiri, but how does it happen ?  I thought teams weren't allowed to sign players until the summer.

out of contract in the summer so they can agree deals witrh teams in other countries.

So, ( going off topic) what's up with Bayern signing Shaqiri for 10 million in February ?

You can still sign deals for players. It's just not really in effect until the windows open, at which point you're allowed to officially register the player as your own. Don't see why more clubs don't set up pre-window deals tbh.

Aye, you can buy people whenever you want but you can't register them to play for you until the transfer windows are open (unless they're already out of contract - see Shefki Kuqi).

We did it with Cabaye last year as well :)

From another forum:

"Good deal for you lot if it's a free as mentioned. He's very decent player for Reims. Excellent passing ability but he's unlikely to rack up the goals or assists. More of a holding the ball and releasing for another e.g Cabaye to do tricks with it. Think Arteta."

Probably due to the risk of injury for the buyers or the selling club turning fans against them whilst that player is still playing for your team...
