Hanshithispantz
I certainly didn't know he could strike a volley sweeter than Matt Le Tissier
LV
Never in my life did I think I'd say this, but the mighty Gouf has to start on Saturday Feel dirty just typing it. I know what you mean but he's been immense so far. I lay the blame for his decline squarely at Pardew's door (and there's a good pile of s*** outside that particular door already). If you're an accountant and get told to go and work as a surgeon then it's inevitable you are going to look a bit average. Gouffran was never a defensive winger in a million years. That melt Pardew needs publically outing for the fraud he is but he just keeps on getting away with it. He's still playing as a defensive winger, just at a lower level Not in the way Pardew had him playing. He was rarely anywhere near the opposition box. Hanshithispantz
In the beginning he was, he looked really energetic down the wing for a short while after he signed and then the following season (I think) he went through that patch of ghosting into the box and nicking the odd goal. Then he just got progressively more pointless as every game went by to the point everyone hated him Not even sure who's fault it was.
Pilko
Pardew's fault like. He was always bang average but had any kind of attacking instinct quashed. One day a week on attacking, four on defending ffs.

Four days a week on defending and we consistently had one of the worst defences in the league
Hanshithispantz
Like when we spent all winter perfecting the perfect corner.

jackyboy
He looked like a really good player when he first came and scored a few goals...................then Pardew got him and he went downhill. Rafa is now getting the best out of him and he looks like a different player
Ronaldo
We're in the Championship. He's a million miles away from being a PL quality player.
James
The most comparable player would be Lovenkrands, good in the Championship, can fulfil a useful squad role in the Premier League under the right conditions.

Lovenkrands was nowhere near as effective as Gouffran appears to be now in this purple patch.

HawK
Didn't Lova get 16 goals? 13 in the league and having watched almost all the games there wasn't a time that a case could be made for him starting ahead of anyone really.

Ronaldo
Pretty sure he didn't get 1 in 4, like. He was godawful in the PL, anyway and never got near to it again after we binned him.

For someone who was meant to be a pure finisher, he was just not up to it and was pushed out of the side by Marlon Harewood.

For someone who was meant to be a pure finisher, he was just not up to it and was pushed out of the side by Marlon Harewood. What the hell? He scored 16 goals that season. Harewood got 1. Again this is in the backdrop of playing a number of those appearances from the wing or from the bench. Hughton and Pardew liked to use him not as an out and out striker but instead as someone who could make clever runs off the ball to create gaps for Nolan and Carroll to exploit. He was a highly effective and underrated player for us at the time he was with us.
Ronaldo
Harewood got around 5 in 10, if memory serves.

Scored 10 in 40 appearances after promotion. A lot of appearances as a sub or left winger under Pardew.
