Can't beleive he's left Marv out for Bigi... nonsense! real nonsense!

We are chasing a two goal deficit and he wants to play it safe... This is the straw that broke the camel's back!

FFS!

NEWCASTLE United boss Alan Pardew has controversially named a weakened side for tonight's Europa League quarter-final second leg with Benfica.

In a move that suggests he is prioritising Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland, Pardew has recalled Mike Williamson and Gael Bigirimana for a game the Magpies must win by at least two clear goals if they are to progress.

Williamson is surprisingly preferred to James Perch, who is on the bench, and will partner Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in the absence of injured duo Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.

Bigirimana gets the nod ahead of Sylvain Marveaux, who is also on the bench, and will play in a deep-lying midfield role alongside Vurnon Anita.

Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko will be given licence to push forward in support of lone striker Papiss Cisse.

If he needs, needs, needs to play a defensive-minded player in the middle then I'm going to bang this drum again - play Jonas in that role and put Marveaux out wide where he's at least on the pitch in an advanced position.  Marveaux is not on the pitch anywhere near often enough.

Pardew is what he is. He's going into a home game where we need to win by at least 2 clear goals talking about keeping it tight. Fair enough, not conceding too many is part of it, but we know where his priority always lies, it's not scoring goals.

4-3-2-1 defensive by the sounds of that when we need to win 2-0

Hardly weakened IMO. Perch only just back from injury so of course Williamson is going to play.

HBA only just back from injury so he was never going to start.

Only one is Marv for Bigi. Maybe Marv is knackered and doesnt have as high a stamina as say someone like, Santon or Jonas.

He doesn't want the ball...

Thing is he clearly does.... last time he started a game against Arsenal we dominated possession at the Emirates i know we lost but that wasn't his fault as we collapsed when he went off.

That night he had 79 touches of the ball which is more than Wilshere and he had 94% accuracy.

What you describe Bigi is the complete opposite of what he actually is, he is very composed, technically good and always wants the ball.

I don't really want to use stats but its the easiest way to dispel ill-informed comments like these.

It's just typically glass-half-empty from Pardew.

Best way of scoring two goals, many managers would consider cramming the team with attackers and taking the game to them.

Pardew considers keeping it 0-0 until the last twenty minutes, then throwing on attackers from the bench late on as a last resort.
