f***ing hell, Haidara as first choice left-back and keeping Taylor ahead of Yanga-Mbiwa.

If Haidara and Taylor make 20+ starts each next season, I would pretty much guarantee us finishing in the bottom six.

That a bit harsh on Haidara tbh, he's close if not at Santon's level imo.

Santon is miles better than both Haidara and Dummett. We'd be crazy to get rid.

Santon is shite and has been for at least 18 months, atm he is probably the best we have but not by much and Haidara has a lot more scope for improvement.

Neither Dummett or Haidara are anywhere near ready to be a first choice Premier League left-back.

Selling Santon would be a barking mad move, but exactly the sort of money-motivated shit this current regime might try.

He's not "shite" like

He's just "not very good"

Aye the six months before that he was playing his best football and then he was Pardewed. He clearly loves the Toon but it's just not working at this moment in time. He's still only 23 years old, he's not a natural defender but has done well playing there since the age of 18(?) in the champions league, serie A and now the premier league.

I like Haidara but he's still raw, still got that heavy touch where his second touch is a tackle (wigan), but it's obvious he nor Dummett have the qualities to have done that by the time they're 33 never mind 23. Haidara's still got 2 years until 23 so still hopeful but Dummett's got 6 months and I can't see him getting much better. Below average, St Mirren was his level. 6 year deal still can't believe that shite.

Anyway....

ALL the problems we have in the first team and squad and still we're concentrated on left backs! I hate Pardew

We are in no position to be selling players like. Our squad is piss weak at best and we have a long standing problem with picking up too many injuries as seasons go on.

tbf left back is the one area we have decent cover, especially now we've got Colback! Santon is the last one I would be selling though - his form hasn't been brilliant (although anyone who thinks he's been shite hasn't been paying attention to some of the dross we had playing there before we signed him) but his top level is way above that of Haidara or Dummett imo.

Just because we have cover doesn't mean we should be selling people though. Santon is currently our best LB and second best RB. Selling him means we have one specialist RB and two, currently, below par LBs. It'd be nuts especially as he seems fairly content.

I don't disagree that he hasn't turned in to the player we hoped but with the coaching set up we have this is never going to be a surprise although he has to play his part in this too as he switches off during games.

Aye we need at least 6 players of high quality and that's without selling anyone.

Until we know whether Debuchy will be here next season, it would be daft to get rid of Santon at this stage.  If Debuchy goes, it will be very late in the window and we need months to monitor a player before we submit a low bid and then refuse to be drawn into a bidding war.

We could potentially be going into the new season with Ryan Taylor as our first choice right back unless of course they are thinking of promoting Tavernier.

Yeah I agree, but considering the amount of money we should have to spend. Does it not worry/annoy you that we are chasing freebies? We've spent 1.8m. I'll be amazed if we spend over 10m, which quite frankly is a fucking disgrace

Well apparently I'm shit at sarcasm

Well if he's free we'd be mental as fans to be against the transfer. We need a squad after all and extra bodies are extra bodies; getting them for nothing is a win-win.

So you'd be happy getting Gosling and Shola back?  Alan Smith too and Kuqi to round off the reunion?  They're bodies after all.

Haidara should have had a lot more games last season once we reached 40pts and were clearly just coasting. Ideal time to get him some games under his belt to iron out some of the rough edges, because I think with more experience he'll be a very good left back.

Cajun would be with Gosling. Loves him, doesn't believe he should be let go.
