People hold footballers to a higher standard than they would themselves. If you earn good money, you wouldn't starve if you took a 20% pay cut.

But you would rarely consider taking such a pay cut anyway. If you did it would signify you have a strong desire to be at the lower paying job.

Do you really not see a difference between going from £40k a year to £32k a year and going from £125k a week to £100k a week?

I can't believe even you are that much of a cretin.

If I was earning 150k a year at an amazing job I loved, I'd probably turn down a 175k offer at a shit company. At that pay, I'd probably be living pretty well.

he's not saying that at all is he?  he's just saying that footballers are generally unlikely to consider a pay cut to move to a new club as moves are generally associated with pay rises in pro football, thus to agree to take a pay cut you either want to be at that specific club or don't want to be at the current one anymore very badly

At nearly 30 and potentially £30mil fee, I'm trying to think of other players have been that expensive at such an 'old' age as Payet.

Think Hulk and Shevchenko were similar ages and went for more money but I'm sure I'm missing someone more obvious

West Ham United have sold Dimitri Payet to Olympique de Marseille for a fee of £25m.

The French midfielder has been sold after stating that he no longer wished to play for the Hammers.

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan, said: “The Club would like to place on record its sincere disappointment that Dimitri Payet did not show the same commitment and respect to West Ham United that the Club and fans showed him, particularly when it rewarded him with a lucrative new five-and-half-year deal only last year.

“I would like to make it clear that we have no financial need to sell our best players and that the decision to allow Payet to leave was in accordance with the wishes of the manager and the interests of squad unity. To be frank, my Board and I would have preferred for him to have stayed in order to make an example of him, as no player is bigger than the club.

Miaow.
