Hatem Ben Arfa (still a free agent)

Recommended Posts

HBA was the kind of player that makes you a fan of football. Nobody falls in love with the game because of an organized defence or a hard-working midfielder. Of course all these things are important to success but it's not what makes you excited and inspired as a kid.

Mazy runs and great goals do that (among other things of course), and that's what HBA gave us. Not every game, but enough to make him the cult hero he's become to many of us

Fairly sure pardew wanks himself to sleep over 'hard working' midfielders. Course Ben Arfa isn't a legend but he was a fantastically talented showboat who could light the place up cruelly destroyed by the worst living human being who was a joy to watch, and one who clearly loved the club.

No one thinks he's a club legend man ffs [emoji38] Proper straw man. He's a massive cult hero, a brilliant natural talent that was thoroughly wasted, the antithesis of Pardew, and him being a bit of a nutter only makes him more endearing if you already love him. You only need to let anything go if you think there's the remotest chance of him coming back, because that's never ever happening.

AFIAC the God stuff is just exaggerated, tongue in cheek affection. Like when I told someone to kill themselves for criticising him. Have I been wrong this whole time? [emoji38]

That this even needs to be said shows the lack of a sense of humour some have on here. Chillax*, guys, this is the HBA thread. Put on your flipflops, listen to some reggae and go with the flow, just like he did on the pitch.

*I'm bringing chillax back.

This is it! The goal against bolton; watching it at st james with my son, left him marked for life (in a positive way). Still asks about him and where he is playing...

"Daddy who was that last defender he skinned before scoring?"

"Not sure son, think it might have been David Wheater"

"Look Daddy look I'm David Wheater! I want to be just like David Wheater"

Interestingly I do think we have chance to sign him back.  We can offer higher wages than Nice and he knows the fans still love him.  He would be very useful next season as a specialist in attacking which Rafa knows we are desperately in need of one.  Perez unfortunately is not up to the standard we hope for and Hatem can come to take his place.

I know this would not end well as a clash with Rafa is inevitable, but I could see that our story with Hatem hasnt completely ended yet.

Hatem is great but people have really short memories, he's not a very good #10 at all. Much better coming off the wing where he can't be marked so easily.

He was fantastic in that role for Nice and can do quite a job for us there considering we are playing the likes of Perez and Diame there atm

I mean in England, it's completely different. I know it's Pardew and all but i can't see it working tbh.
