3-4-3 with Janmaat the wide right player in the four? Not sure who could play the equivalent position on the left mind. Perez?? IMO we need to find a formation that gets De Jong and Wjnaldum in the team together and they could fill two of the three attacking positions. Sissoko plays CM or not at all.

Gouffran or Anita could do it albeit not very well. Shane Ferguson who is out on loan is playing well at the moment too. I would just go for a back 3 of Dummett, Lascelles and Mbemba with Janmaat and another as wing backs. Forget about making chances, just aim to stop conceding first. If that means sacrificing a non-performing attacking player so be it.

And it's not like we've got wingers anyway, we may as well push Gini into the centre like he should be. I'd definitely try wing backs if it wasn't for the complete lack of left-sided options.

Gini's been terrible in the middle

3 at the back :anguish:

It's not pretty but when you've got a flimsy defence and non-existent midfield I don't really see any other options.

Exactly but is the answer throwing more bad central midfielder and terrible central defenders the answer?

We've always been horrible whenever we've tried this little experiment.

I think it's more a case of looking what this squad as it is now is physically and mentally capable of. If we attack in numbers we don't have the pace defensively to cope with an open game. Neither do we have the midfielders who can press a team and push them on the back foot. The only thing we look physically capable of is parking the bus and maybe scoring a goal on the break via Gini or Sissoko.

Won the North East writers footballer of the year award tonight at the Ramside.

Used his acceptance speech to apologise to fans for the (in his words) completely unacceptable situation at the club at the moment.

Daryl Janmaat has admitted he was stunned to be named the North East’s player of the year award.

And the Netherlands international has promised there is even more to come from him and Newcastle United next year.

:mackems:

6? maybe even 7 league wins in 2016? :fwap:

Stupid deluded geordies, your expectations are too high.  You should settle for being mince and like it.
