AyeDubbleYoo
Well my opinion based on watching our players. Wijnaldum has the attributes to play CM, Colback is awful and Thauvin provides a bit of balance.

Wijnaldum has the attributes to play CM, Colback is awful and Thauvin provides a bit of balance. You have to want the ball to play midfield. He's also our most reliable goal scorer and you are taking him further away from the goal
AyeDubbleYoo
I don't think he would be noticeably further from the goal TBH, he normally makes a run from really deep when he gets into the box. I haven't noticed that he doesn't want the ball either, that's the result of the position he's currently in. His touch, awareness and passing are more than good enough. And Colback is awful. He definitely would be noticeably further away like. At the moment he gets into the box any time we are up there which he wouldn't be able to do. He has enough ability to play centre mid but not sure he has the mentality to sit and try to control a game. Aye Colback is fucking awful
Kanji
As if he fucking hides man, he's all over the pitch trying to make something happen and 9/10 he buries today's chance.

Kanji
So what point are people trying to make then? When he has the ball or is finally given it in general play he's kept it well and distributed well. we force every attack down the right given our useless attack from our left back. My point is that given he's not really a creator or an outstanding passer and is more of a goalscorer so it would counter productive to put him back in CM. BrettNUFC
He can't keep playing LM, it's badly hampering us! But Colback's existence is killing everyone!
Parky
Nearly everything goes down the right cause Dummett is rubbish and rarely overlaps or interchanges with purpose. You can see Wij in acres of space miles away from the ball.
toontownman
Absolutely wasted at LM. Has to come in and replace colback. Will likely eventually come inside and replace Anita.
Mick
Dunno where his best position is tbh, doesn't get involved enough to be the #10 and you tak take away his best attribute if you stick him in CM. Think where he is now might be his best spot but if we're gonna leave him there a proper attacking left back is a must because absolutely nothing is coming from us down that flank with Dummett out there dummetting things up. Mackem.

Gallowgate Toon
Just don't see him as a CM, like. With a decent left back or a second striker willing to work channels more (preferably both), he'd be fine in his left position.
Dave
Far less involved than he should have been today, as one of our best players. Considering the miss, it was a poor game.
mozy
Currently he isn't suited for CM at all, simply isn't the kind of player to dictate play or dominate that area. In terms of his movement though, he's the best we've had from midfield since Kevin Nolan at timing his runs and finding space in the box. To do that he needs to operate from a 3 man midfield where he's free of defensive responsibility or from the wing. The problem is Dummett is obviously shite. AyeDubbleYoo
Wijnaldum makes Dummett look worse as well though, with a wide player ahead of him Dummett can move the ball on up the line.
Gallowgate Toon
Would consider giving him a run out at 10 and popping Perez on the left against Everton. Perez tends to move a bit wider anyway and looks more comfortable trying to beat a player in those areas. Then again, Gini's goal threat seems to largely be because he ghosts in from the left so who knows
buzza
Wijnaldum makes Dummett look worse as well though, with a wide player ahead of him Dummett can move the ball on up the line. Very true, what he offers going forward is fantastic but he does not offer much defensively. Hate the fact he drifts out of games a lot as well. The College Dropout
Wijnaldum makes Dummett look worse as well though, with a wide player ahead of him Dummett can move the ball on up the line. Very true, what he offers going forward is fantastic but he does not offer much defensively. Hate the fact he drifts out of games a lot as well. Aye, there isn't an easy pass forward for Dummett (other than the hoof) because Wijnaldum has pushed up closer to the strikers or is central. Being a left footer means there isn't a comfortable pass to be made, obviously a big issue in that is a lack of ability on the ball. And again defensively Wijnaldum isn't often there to help out. I don't think he would be noticeably further from the goal TBH, he normally makes a run from really deep when he gets into the box. I haven't noticed that he doesn't want the ball either, that's the result of the position he's currently in. His touch, awareness and passing are more than good enough. And Colback is awful. He has enough ability to play centre mid but not sure he has the mentality to sit and try to control a game. Aye Colback is f***ing awful Aye, he looks a fantastic footballer but he's not as interested in getting on the ball as much as you would like. Which doesn't sit well with being at CM in a midfield 2. As if he f***ing hides man, he's all over the pitch trying to make something happen and 9/10 he buries today's chance. He doesn't hide, he gets forward all the time trying to get in behind and into the box which makes him anonymous in general play a lot of the time Literally not a single person has said he hides. He's just not involved in the game for large periods. Nearly everything goes down the right cause Dummett is rubbish and rarely overlaps or interchanges with purpose. You can see Wij in acres of space miles away from the ball. Wijnaldum is rarely in a position to be overlapped but there's acres of space for Dummett aye. Wijnaldum isn't close enough to Dummett for exchanges. Sissoko and Janmaat combine a lot and that's partly because they are so close together. If you look at Stats Zone "Influence" which calculates on the ball events like touches, passes, tackles etc.) and the position of the name shows the players average position Janmaat and Sissoko literally overlap. Conversely, Dummett is alone on the left side of the pitch. Wijnaldum's average position is as central as Colback's and as far forward as De Jong. Dummett's poor technically but he can't interchange with someone that isn't there. With all that space and freedom to attack he could put in some decent balls though. Of all the players to start and finish the game for us - the Influence stat has him as the least involvement/influence. So less on the ball actions than any other player which backs up the observation. Aye, he's finding space and that but we could do with him on the ball more.
