Newcastle United 1-0 West Bromwich Albion - Post-match reaction from page 33

McClaren clearly terrified, judging by our tactics for the last 15mins. Newcastle start defending deeper, a couple of subs to waste time.... and we hang on and get the win.

McClaren is one lucky cunt today.

Bit unfair considering we hammered them for the entire game.

One of the most one-sided 1-0s you'll ever see. We should have won way, way more comfortably than that, and yet could have easily thrown it away in the 92nd minute.

Played well on the whole, and I can't really think of a player that didn't have a good game with the possible exception of Wijnaldum who should have got at least one goal. Tiote and Shelvey were probably the best central midfield we've had all season. Taylor was excellent and deserves a lot of credit for coming back into the side like that, albeit against absolutely wank opposition.

We played really well, a few more goals would have made the afternoon a bit more relaxing but it was still enjoyable to watch and we didn't have a weakness other than in front of goal.

Which is a worry as we've had that weakness all season.

Magnificent and tremendous. Why don't we play like this every week?

We do to be fair, unfortunately the other teams usually tend to turn up as well

The fact that we just managed to win that game doesn't fill me with great optimism. West Brom had 0 shots on target and 7 off target. We had 7 on target and 19 shots overall. We make it so difficult for ourselves with our atrocious finishing. That game should have been won and safe in the first half. I'm no fan of McClaren but you can't blame him for our player's finishing.

Obviously this is the pattern this season: five terrible performances, then one decent one that keeps McClarens job. We've improved our squad, so let's hope it's enough to keep us up.

We have all the good intentions, but are just so fragile, feverish and nervous; basically all signs of a barely coached team. The thing that stood out today was how poor the oppositon were - classic Pulis side once they're safe, except they aren't yet...
