Wasn’t he the one who Man U got millions for as a teenager even though he never played for them (a million years ago)?

Pretty sure he was an attacking mid and Chelsea converted him to a DM?

I remember when Kaka told us Mikel has had a rubbish career

He's had a solid career, just a disappointing one for me personally.

Really thought he should have gone to Man U at the time and played for Fergie. Keane and Scholes were big fans after he trained with them as a school boy and told Fergie they had to sign him. Think he would have come along as more of a forward thinking midfielder there, in the mould of a Pogba, which is more of the player he was as a youngster.

Didn't really think there was a place at Chelsea for him to play that role, and he ended up becoming a pretty ordinary holding midfielder stuck under the tutelage of a pretty cynical manager in Mourinho. The article below pretty much details the whole thing.

I'm actually understating it. I hated his time at Chelsea so much man. Still annoys me really.

He was a massively talented young player that we had very high hopes for. It's a big shame he never really got a chance to even develop his more natural game.

Just remember him stuck at holding midfield playing sideways and backwards passes under Mourinho. Urgh.

£12m. They had to pay a brave bit to his original club too. It was such a shitfest. Glad we never got him in the end too.

He would have developed into more of a number 6 , didn't have to be a number 10 at all.

That's why I mentioned Pogba in an earlier post, or an Alonso, a Shelvey. More those types of players.

Not an ultra deep, safe sidewards and backwards passer. It was clearly down to Mourinho's approach IMO.
