Mike Ashley (former owner) (still alive)

Recommended Posts

I actually like Sheffield Wednesday. I think they are the last of Englands sleeping giants requiring a takeover to reach their potential. In fact I’m in Doncaster to see family between Christmas and New Year and I’m considering going to one of their games.

I totally get that they just want their club to survive, and Ashley might be the only person who can save them now. Long term though we all know that’s not how Ashley rolls. The myths all still exist, like how he apparently saved us from financial ruin, despite it being his arrival which resulted in the loans being called in.

The whole he left us in a better position myth as well, completely forgetting the fact that our commercial revenue was below that of what we had when he first arrived, with a stadium falling to bits, and a training ground not fit for purpose. When he did go, it took a financier 4 years of negotiations, and then later court cases to get him to release us from his greasy mitts. A financier who brokered the Man City takeover, and saved Barclays Bank during the economic down.

We all know how this ends, and it not with Sheffield Wednesday becoming a Premier League team or even Championship with either the ground improvements or new stadium that they need to get there. Rangers fans know it as well, and Coventry got a taste of it after being in a similar position. His release of their stadium is actually rumoured to be part of his plan to buy Sheffield Wednesday.

I don’t wish him on Sheffield Wednesday, but I’m massively intrigued to see it all unfold again.

This is it for me.

Success is relative. They may be delighted with him if he does to them what he did to us. And maybe rightfully so.

He took a regular European Club and turned it into a yoyo club. He stunted it's grow on and off the pitch and turned fans away. That's not success. He was lucky he had a large fanbase to milk, and a known brand to exploit. He'll have neither this time and he won't invest long term. It has disaster written all over it imho. The best thry can hope for is kicking around mid table in the championship, but thst will only be fleeting as the players who shine will be actively sold and replaced with the cheapest possible option.

Statement released by Ashley’s law firm:

This was a triumph
I'm making a note here; "Huge success"

It's hard to overstate
My satisfaction

Sports Direct:
We do what we must
Because we can

For the good of all of us
Except the ones who are dead

But there's no sense crying
Over every mistake
You just keep on trying
Till you run out of cake
And the science gets done
And you make a neat gun
For the people who are
Still alive

I'm not even angry
I'm being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart,
And killed me

And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you

Now, these points of data
Make a beautiful line
And we're out of beta
We're releasing on time
So I'm GLaD I got burned
Think of all the things we learned-
For the people who are
Still alive

Go ahead and leave me
I think I'd prefer to stay inside
Maybe you'll find someone else
To help you?
Maybe Kevin Keegan?
That was a joke *Haha - Fat Chance*

Anyway this cake is great
It's so delicious and moist

Look at me: still talking
When there's science to do
When I look out there,
It makes me GLaD I'm not you

I've experiments to run
There is research to be done
On the people who are
Still alive
And believe me I am
Still alive
I'm doing science and I'm
Still alive
I feel fantastic and I'm
Still alive
While you're dying I'll be
Still alive
And when you're dead I will be
Still alive

Still alive

Hmm that seems oddly familiar.

Something slightly robotic about it too... 🤔 🤣

I'm guessing the Sheff Wed fans are going through the trying to pretend he's going to be great and it was only us deluded geordies who hated Mike Ashley phase?

Give it time and we'll soon be able to dust off the not knowing what it's like to be managed by Steve Bruce thing and apply it to being owned by this fucker

Poker player chosen as a preferred bidder, that just screams financial security.

Sheffield Wednesday need a whole new team, probably a new manager, and a new stadium, be it a rebuild or new location. What the fuck is a poker player going to do to be able to appoint all that?

Just another guy who’s hoping to hit it lucky and flip them.

Hate to say it but given their situation Ashley would be a decent fit and in time would get them to be a lower end prem team. That’s better than what they’ve had for a long time.

If he ends up being a crook like Ashley there's a great headline there. "Bord, James Bord - Licence to Shill"

He’s already been involved in Sheffield United with an AI company who apparently were the ones who said they should sack Wilder.

He owns Dunfermline and has done nothing significant there, and has a minority interest in other clubs.

He’s a fucking chancer who’s hoping he can somehow assemble a squad good enough to get to the Premier League and cash in.

You think he'd invest enough to take them from League 1 (where they'll be next season) to the Premier League? [emoji38]

As long as its not a public investment fund for one of the richest countries on the planet that could transform a club and make it one of the biggest in the world and massively increase its natural revenue without any financial risk to the club, they'll let anybody in if they don't threaten the order at the top.

I don’t agree, but I see where you are coming from. Out of all the options they have, he was their best one, which is a very grim prospect. The only thing he has over them is that he would be able sustain the club during turmoil, you don’t get that impression with their preferred bidders.

This is the nail on the head. I’ve said it before, but considering Leeds have their takeover, so do Everton, and West Ham who have an investor who has first refusal on them, Sheffield Wednesday are the last of the English sleeping giants who long term could force their way into the top clubs.

They stand fuck all in that prospect now. I’m not saying Ashley would have got them there, but out of all their options he was the most likely.

This guy is very much like the non-league owners who bought Sunderland on the premise that they would pay Ellis Short if they ever hit the jackpot and got into the Premier League.

He’ll not last more than 3 years before it fucks up again.

If it served his purpose which is advertising SportsDirect then I think he would.

Paid to get us back into the prem (I accept it was his own incompetence that got us relegated) and covered the shortfall which he placed on the club and was part of the sale price to PIF.

Complete nonsense. You obviously know nothing about Ashley.
