Keggy_Keagal
Barnes was absolutely fine for us. Think he got about 7 goals in 40 games and played often as a central midfielder. Looked after the ball well. He tended to get a bit of stick as he was a very different player to the Liverpool days, he'd filled out a lot and you could tell the injuries had took a toll. If you forgot what he had been and judged him on the player he was at that moment he did a decent job for us.
Optimistic Nut
Barnes & Pearce were absolutely fine. Rush was a clear panic short-term signing after Shearer's injury and Ferdinand leaving. Sort of like Kuqi. Edited July 12, 2025 by Optimistic Nut

He did gave us Solano though, and Speed...pity Speed didnt really come good till 2 seasons later The Shearer injury was a disaster, however I'd still say Daglish created the turd. Lenny
Bit late to the party but my memory was that Pearce was the best of the three for us, Barnes was okay and not much more, and Rush was absolutely useless, although if I remember rightly he scored a goal in the cup that put us through late on... Everton was it?! Edited July 12, 2025 by Lenny
Superior Acuña
Why did Beardsley go that summer when he was bringing the likes of Rush in? He was past it but no more than him, and Dalglish had a history with him.

Pretty sure it was the first Newcastle match I ever saw, at least the first one I have any recollection of whatsoever. Vaguest of vague memories of Barcelona but looking back at the fixtures, that Everton game was the beginning of it all for me. Thanks, Ian!

Sibierski
I can understand why we were keen on keeping him on in some capacity. Isak injured and we don’t get a striker till end of August, Wilson would’ve been a reliable head (for Howe) to lead line first two games.

Reliably shite maybe, he's completely finished, whether that's for 1 minute or 1 game for us.
