Callum Wilson (still at West Ham)

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the service and all the best.

No hard feelings about the injuries and such, any issues around keeping him too long were more our fault than his. But a really fantastic forward when fit and well, who played a big part in getting us to where we are now. One of the very few other clubs would've wanted in their side at the time of the takeover.

He went from too good for us to being surplus and thats a good indication of our progress as a club. Will always consider him one of us as he transitions into what is looking like a lucrative media career.

When i think (and defended at times the selection) of Wilson I always think of the 1-4 Everton game. One half showing the artistry of Isak with his assist for Murphy but prior to that a classic goal poachers reaction and goal to opening the scoring which we will definitely lose from the squad as I don’t believe even Isak has that reaction instinct in the 6 yard box. Shame he wasn‘t able to contribute much 24/25 as it will no doubt taint some fan’s opinion of him.

Farewell sweet prince…

Nearly scored a great goal near the end of the season - Brighton, that could have got us the win. Wish that had gone in would have been a nice ending to his career here , the cup win he deserved though

Still find it a bit odd that we were able to bring him in from Bournemouth. Surely a more ambitious club should have been interested? He was great for a while.

If not for his injuries even then I'm sure he would have.

Such a great striker on his day, undoubted quality and too good for us at times but his body let him and us down too often when we needed him most.

He will hopefully be remembered fondly for the quality he gave us through the years and not derided for the rapid decline. Probably stayed one season too long, through no fault of his own but due to finances.

Thank you Callum and good luck in whatever you do next!

Absolutely the correct decision for all parties. I think we can all agree that he stayed a season too long but I won't let that sour my opinion of him. He and ASM were the only shining lights we had during the darkest period I've experienced supporting this club and he always came across as a really sound guy who was popular amongst his teammates. I'll forever be grateful for his service to the club in helping us getting to where we are today, IMO, he's the 2nd best striker we've had since Shearer and I wish him all the best for the future. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up next.

Thanks Callum, though it’s definitely time to move on for all involved, and I hope we have a decent replacement lined up.

Slightly irritated by the overuse of the word ‘Great’ when talking about his time with us,  but thats just me being picky :bluestar:

Thanks Big Cal.

Willock then him kept us in the league with Cabbageheed and essentially paved the way for the takeover.

The goals in 22/23 under Eddie meant we finished the season strong and got back into the CL.

In terms of instincts alone, as good as any I can think of. Also very good physicality for his size, though this may have cost him some of the injuries, certainly that chest one at the edge of the box in the final minute.

Will love Cal forever. Absolute legend. His story off the pitch is such a brave one, and the fight and hunger he had to get to the very top of football is incredible. Inspiration for anyone.

Was more than time for him to move on, but what a goalscorer when fit 2020-2023. That run of form of his April-May 2023 coincided with probably my favourite ever stretch of league games following us, and my favourite ever away game I’ve been to (Everton 1-4).

Gan well, Callum.
