Fair play to him and Forest. Great bit of business by them. I don't know how much of his development has been just his own determination and how much was down to Nuno, but his rise has been so impressive. It must've been heartbreaking to leave his hometown club, but would he have had as much first team action here if he'd stayed?

I know a Forest fan, and he was asking me why on earth we sold him just 2 months into his spell at Forest. In his last spell here he had just been out for 5 months, so he wasn't up to speed yet, but he was promising before that injury. I think the injury fucked us, and since we didn't get the proof of breakthrough yet, it was more convenient to sell potensial than a key player. It's understandable given the dire situation. I doubt Howe was happy about having to let him go, even at the time.

The injury really did fuck us. I recall he was arguably our best player in that pre season. With the injuries we had that season and Champions League, he'd have got loads of games. Miley ended up getting them instead, at only 17.

He also started several games at the start of that season, with everyone except Willock fit. I think Howe really fancied him at that point. Just bad luck.

For all he’s a good player, does he score or assist enough for that kind of money? Unless the thinking is in a better team his output will increase.

I’m not saying he’s Rodri but as a comparison.

Rodri has a goal or assist every 4 games in the PL and Anderson has a contribution around every 8 games.

Tonali had two assists in the league last year and 2.2 expected assists as a comparison (Anderson 6 assists and 3.3 expected assists). Anderson played 98 minutes more A lot can depend on your role in CM and he seems to mainly play the deeper, holding/linking role.

Not good enough for NO, but good enough for Pep.

Tbf, it was never a case we wanted to sell him - or Minteh for that matter. We had to sell players in a hurry to satisfy PSR demands of the PL enforcers.

Caicedo has scored 5 league goals total and 7 assists total for Chelsea and he's seen as one of the best on the league. Gravenberch was seen as the best midfielder on the league last season with 0 goals and 4 assists.

I don't see how goals and assists is a metric at all for judging a defensive midfielder. Especially when that DM is getting more 'goal contributions' than his most highly rated peers.

From a quick look at some other forums of the top teams, he is getting praise there aswell. We are actually more sceptical here. If he is overrated, that means that he's overrated in general, and not by us because we sold him.

He’s under rated here because he’s left and improved so much.  And people have a narrative they won’t change.

Not a dig Tron but he’s said Anderson isn’t good in tight spaces.   There’s plenty of video evidence that he is good in tight spaces for where he plays.

Again, I didn’t see it for him here. Like Miley is now, Anderson was figuring out what type of player he is and needed physical development. People still have that version and in their mind.

Aye this is a weird narrative that’s developed this season about CMs.

Thats free scoring Man City with Haaland as their CF and countless world class attackers through the years vs counter attacking Nottingham Forest whose best attackers have been Wood, MGW and Elanga.

Yea I was never saying any of that. Just find that either people don’t watch him at Forest or want to continue to chronically underrate or over criticize any local players we had for the sake of it.

Anderson helps control games, and he’d be fantastic for us. He’d likely chose us over any other club if he had the choice I’m sure too.

We never narrowed down his position when here would he be competition with Bruno in the advanced role or tonali in the sitting role?

He probably never wanted to go but may accept a club over us if they offer being first choice if he had of stayed and he was the rotation 20/25 starts a season that may have worked waiting  for tonali to leave or bruno to potentially age out.

Now hes had a taste of being first team first choice i am not sure he would want to go back to that. Right now him at his best still isn't as good as both ours at their best.

Obviously if he's more of a Joelinton replacement/option have we already signed that getting Ramsey?

In general goal and assists are incredibly flawed metric when discussing a players impact because goals and assists happen as the result of the whole team (mostly) none of it happens by magic.

I get it's an easy look into a player and you actually have to watch them play for weeks at a time to know said impact. It's why one player can have amazing stats for one team and then not look so hot for another team, it's not that they're suddenly garbage but they're not put into a position to succeed or have to sacrifice stuff to help the team run better.

Very few players are amazing no matter what, the circumstances that surround them matter loads.

Is a defensive midfielder? Seems more like a box-to-box to me. His goal output has always been really low and was definitely one of the things that eased my annoyance at us selling him; he never looks like scoring.

That was my assessment of him when he was here. On the few run outs he got, he always seemed to be running into traffic - but tbf he seemed to be operating wide left when that happened. It was strange, because he had always looked like a cracking prospect before that.

I am not one of those who thinks he's improved THAT much. I think he's playing in a team or position which suits him better, and of course getting regular games will have helped.

I think you guys get it a little bit wrong re Anderson. Yea say if we bought him back he would certainly play Big Joes position, but where he is currently excelled at is actually the BG role. In fact I think part of the reason of his outbreak is his time at Newcastle where he learnt from BG during daily training.

I know it’s a long stretch but it’s kinda similar to what happened to Pirlo from Inter to AC Milan. It’s basically a new role for a midfielder who was believed to be good at attacking role only.

He plays as a defensive midfielder though.

Yeah that much is obvious and where we disagree

Going into 2027/28 season, we largely have Tonali / Bruno entering final year / Ramsey / Miley. Others gone by then. Spending big on Anderson may be a move we don’t want to do in 2026, but it’s one we need to do if that’s the window to sign him rather than gamble on waiting another season. We need to sign a top CM either 2026 or 2027, so just bring it forward a year. Isak sale should enable us to make that move which otherwise probably wasn’t viable without compromising other positions.

After all the noise the last few days of who'll be after him this summer, the Telegraph were reporting earlier today that Forest won't sell for less than £100 million this summer.

He's now looking like a fixture in the England team and in that sense has now moved ahead of Wharton, who Palace were already quoting similarly high figures for already.

Don't think anyone has a chance of getting him out of Forest anytime soon. Not unless they are ready to throw some serious money around.
