Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Anderson in Joelinton's role would be perfect, you'd have basically a Bruno jr on the other side.

Can Anderson make those box-to-box runs like Joelinton? I'm not so sure. If Anderson was a better finisher version of him then 100%, Joelinton gets into some brilliant positions arriving in the box, he's just not the most composed when he gets there. I don't see Anderson as that sort of player?

Unless you're comparing them in the same system, stats like pass completion can be misleading. Forest play basically everything through Anderson and, at least from what I've watched, he's generally much more safe with his passing than our midfielders. I'm always inclined to think high pass completion from so many passes isn't necessarily a good thing, unless you're playing in a side that is built around possession and suffocating teams.

I prefer a midfielder to be incisive and offer a goal threat, which is where I think Anderson still falls short considering the kind of fee he'd command.

As much as Howe has heaped praise, I don’t think we’d be in for him even if the fee was reasonable. Maybe if they got relegated he might have some clause.. he’s to sort the Joelinton problem first.

He’s HG which is another added bonus to why we’d have to get him. A HG player who’s a starter for next 5+ seasons is massive in context of moving club forward and being competitive in Europe.

Him, Hall, Miley is 3 sorted for years to come. And you’d hope Neave could develop well over next 2 seasons to take that to 4. Then whatever we produce we can churn out for sales over next 5 seasons if they’re not good enough to be a key squad player.

Yeah this is what I thought of him in our game.  I wasn't too impressed in all honesty.

Few things around that game specifically...

He came with a struggling team (stats back this up from end of last season, table backs this up this season); with a new manager who appears likely to challenge the team to play very differently - admittedly they are a work in progress on that front; and add in that this was a return to his old club where he would be looking to make a good impression after seeing his personal reputation grow a lot since leaving. Probably fair to give him a pass on that game. Maybe also the fact that our midfield gave him such a hard time could be taken as acknowledgement of the fact that they know he could make things happen if he got going.

Last thing, even without getting the results and points we hoped for so far this season, we are hard to play through and don't give up many chances.

everyone is more safe than our midfielders like, but Anderson isn't particularly safe with his passing. Pretty much everything he does goes forwards. He has the most progressive passes and the most passes into the final third in the league this season, and 2nd most shot creating actions if you're talking about how incisive he is. I'd say his best attribute is to break lines whether it's carrying or passing.

He's obviously really good at finding space as well. If everyone knows Forest send everything through him then they'd just mark him out of the game like people regularly used to do to Bruno when he played the central role. But they haven't been able to.

There's a good reason he's not just playing but staring for England now, who look loads better since he's come into the team. He's really fucking good

Forest have been a low possession side so the pass completion will be low. Otherwise he’s a great all action midfielder. Passed it forward. Carries it. Gets into the box.  Good creativity right. Not a massive goal threat but young enough to improve.

I didn’t see it for him when he’s here. But he’s a proper player. He can definitely talk to Big Joe and would rival him for a start - maybe surpass. Geordie. HG.

BHH.

He’d cost a bomb at this point. What’s the most people would want to spend on him?

Double edged sword isn't it?

If he'd stayed he wouldn't have played anywhere near as much.

That of course would have stifled his development and as a result his value.

So now he's worth a lot more than we sold him for, and we miss out on a lot of money, how much, we will see.

But hey, as long as PSR is satisfied! 🤣

The system truly works...

Obviously our PSR fuck up meant we lost Anderson AND Minteh but you're correct that the former, and to some extent the latter, wouldn't have been anywhere near the levels they are now had they not been sold to their current clubs.

Anderson's rise has been meteoric and he looks the part on the International stage already but so did Adam Wharton.

I should probably stop banging this drum, but I still remember he struggled in congested spaces when he played for us, and with us playing a high press, that means our games are played at a fast pace. With Forest and England, he gets a lot more time and space due to either the formation or quality of opposition.

I am still undecided on him at this point. Is he really that much better, or is it just conditions suit him more? If he's tearing it up against the top PL sides then fair enough. I don't really watch Forest regularly so would have to take other opinions on it.

From a quick look at some other forums of the top teams, he is getting praise there aswell. We are actually more sceptical here. If he is overrated, that means that he's overrated in general, and not by us because we sold him.

Fair play to him and Forest. Great bit of business by them. I don't know how much of his development has been just his own determination and how much was down to Nuno, but his rise has been so impressive. It must've been heartbreaking to leave his hometown club, but would he have had as much first team action here if he'd stayed?
