loki679
The theory that this was to put pressure on the chair is just bonkers. It's not your mate Terry chairing the local meeting of the rat and parrot dominoes club, it's one of the most senior QCs in the country. The bloke's been a lawyer for 50 odd years, a QC for 40 or something and was chosen by two retired judges who are also Lords, this isn't gonna rattle him. Agree 100%, I think it’s got more to do with creating a narrative the supporters will buy into. If or when arbitration goes against us, it’ll be as we were. Not rejected but the buyers won’t come back to the table. I was joking when I mentioned the possibility of getting relegated on purpose but actually, the more I think of it, it’s probably the likeliest way it can actually happen. (The takeover) The EFL won’t apply even close to the same rules and then when we return to the PL, well the deal is already done. They can’t do anything about it then. Yip, the tests are very much aligned now aswell, the only thing outside arbitration that swings this is the Bein situation which may soften stances and lead to a settlement. Ben
Has it been explained why the preceedings won't be made public ? Surely its in the best interests of all 20 clubs and the wider football community to be as transparent as possible

Wandy
Ashley must not be expecting this to be resolved this year, to be carrying on like this. A lengthy court case can be the only thing he is anticipating as it makes no sense to gamble this way on losing £150m against a payoff of a few million to Bruce. Minhosa
I can't see how this goes through tbh. I've been 'pro' it happening for the majority of the fucking saga but having looked at the detail a bit more lately, it's not happening imho. On the positive side, there'll be other buyers for sure. I've been 'pro' it happening for the majority of the f***ing saga but having looked at the detail a bit more lately, it's not happening imho. On the positive side, there'll be other buyers for sure. This is where I’m at. There seems to be so many different ducks that all need lining up in such a precise order for it to happen. I think by the time it could happen, PIF will be gone. Relegation will complicate the deal beyond repair. I’m hopeful Staveley and co. may find another investor though. She seems incredibly keen to get a takeover done. Danh1
We will win it, it’s nailed on. Because I’m true Newcastle United fashion, it will get the green light but relegation, a completely unavoidable one, will be what kills the deal.

gdm
Yup this is my thinking. I’ll never ever understand why the useless cunt is fighting so hard for a takeover while seemingly not give a fuck that we are nailed on to go down again

I’ll never ever understand why the useless cunt is fighting so hard for a takeover while seemingly not give a fuck that we are nailed on to go down again If we do win the case but get relegated the value will drop say £100m.now my thinking but not sure if possible is that Ashley could still sell to PIF for £200m and claim loss of earnings of £100m against the Premier League? Maybe this is why he won't sack Bruce as he knows he'll get his £300m anyway even if we get relegated. Could be a bit far fetched but I think he would have a good case as they acted against the rules
junkhead
A long read but it seems to be suggesting NUFC should win this case. https://www.footballlaw.co.uk/articles/newcastle-united-fc-takeover-nufc-v-the-premier-league-ksa-pif Interesting.. Same guy did a comprehensive legal argument on the separation of PIF and State at the start of the takeover. Didn't agree with it back then like. Until the other day, I have been pessimistic of the essence of Ashley's legal actions. After reading the details though, it's pretty clear that the takeover is still in the cards. Guess this will be enough to keep my interest in this bullshit, through the inevitable relegation.

Could be a bit far fetched but I think he would have a good case as they acted against the rules Again, I wouldn't mind hearing an informed legal opinion on this. A lot of people on here have laughed at the idea of Mike being able to claim compensation when we get relegated (and sold) but I don't think anyone really knows. If he had a deal in place that met the criteria for a sale and was denied the sale by unjust means, a compo claim doesn't sound beyond the realms of possibility to me. It would be a dream scenario as well by the way. Sitting back with our filthy oil billions as we watch Ashley and the PL fight it out.

Even if he's being stubborn, there are so many people involved in the deal, you'd think he'd act based on advice from other people. He's a very odd man. He's managed over 500 games and he guided us to a mid-table finish the previous season. I would love to have spent in the January window but I'm feeling the crunch which is why I wanted to sell the club when I did." I've no idea how or if you argue about onfield matters in court but I wouldn't be surprised to Ashley vs The PL going through the courts.
