If they push City and us into doing that they might end up with there being no FFP rules at all. I’ve always thought that transfer windows could be open to legal challenges too. And the restriction on joining other competitions without PL approval clearly is. That's why the government had to threaten legislation to stop the ESL. I think there's probably a lot of stuff in the rules that relies on the compliance of the clubs because it wouldn't hold up if legally challenged. christ
You’re going to see this sort of thing a lot over the next few months. The clubs are going to act out, stamp their feet and generally make a massive amount of noise. Realistically though this is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. They’re very limited as to what they can do to have any sort of meaningful, longer term impact on our ability to compete.
Rafalove
Tbh, it would be good for the game to bring in some regulation that drastically alters the game. Just not this. We need 50 plus one and spending cap regulations which allows more competition through out the leagues. It should be the case that a well run club should be able to compete for the league with in a few years. Obviously this happened with Leicester but we all know that was an anomaly, equally clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool plus who ever else should be just as likely candidates for the drop. Unbelievable
I still hold out hope that we will be able to compete by the club finally being run competently and ambitiously rather than by outspending everybody else. Those so-called big 6 will all remember what this club is capable of when it gathers steam and it's pathetic that they are absolutely bricking it already before even a single pound has been spent in anger. Oh how they loved having a sleeping giant being kept sedated by the fat mess that owned us before and not have to worry about us challenging for "their" CL places. Our starting position is that of a club with a shit manager, shit facilities, shit players, etc. so realistically what have they even got to fear? It will be years before we are anywhere near their level and it's not like most of them are scrapped for cash anyway. They are light years ahead of us, but clearly they're already panicking at the prospect of having to compete against us again. Personally all I wish for is that we start moving in the right direction with good appointments and clever player recruitment and build ourselves up gradually to reach our undoubted potential and ensure we can stay there under our own steam eventually. Leicester are always mentioned as an anomaly, but what other club(s) have actually given it a real go in the way that their owners have? Just maybe it is paralysis in the remainder of the league that prevents another Leicester rather than Leicester being the weird case. In saying that, I get that their league win was a bit of a fluke with everything falling into place both internally and with other clubs that season but they are competing for top 4 and/or cups regularly now
deejeck
Just reading there that USM have already paid Everton a £30m deposit for the naming rights of the new stadium, which would fly in the face of what they're all trying to do here. Nothing more than a disruption technique by the looks of it.
Ankles Bennett
By restricting our short term ability to generate sponsorship "the enemy clubs" clearly want us to be relegated, then they will do their utmost to ensure we are never allowed back into the EPL on promotion!!! cosmic
Just sell Joelinton for 100M quid to Saudi Clubs. He gets a comfy life and set for life. Shelvey will do well there with his camel pace. Repeat every season or whenever funds are required. This is like money laundering in art work. Value is in eyes of beholder.

Kanji
In news today, Al Hilal has acquired Joelinton, Shelvey, Hendrick, Gayle, Ritchie, Clark, Dummett, Murphy, and Krafth for 350 million and paid the transfer fees up front. Newcastle now have potentially 550 million to spend in January. Should be an exciting Transfer window … good morning again from Sky Sports, its January 2nd, 2022 Edited October 19, 2021 by Kanji

Yeah, can see Daniel Jowell getting a phone call again soon if this rule is put in place indefinitely. Absolutely no chance this gets the go ahead but with all clubs already sponsored by their owners business' alright to carry on.
nufcjb
It's dumb. Tbey're stopping themselves too from futute investments. Imagine if one of the big 6 has a billioniare ready to buy them. Yet, you're restricting yourself a lot of future earnings because of your envy to poor old Newcastle.
AyeDubbleYoo
I can't see how this is legal at all. Members of a sporting membership organisation can vote to prevent potential future investment coming in to one of their members, after they have already benefitted from it themselves? Not for me like.
