You’re a pretty good poster man but this is a mare.

The DoF may have the smallest say but this comes from way, way above.

They found their man and wanted him here. And he’s here.

So stoked.

Ha aye, I meant influenced by Ashworth - it’s just great that we’re actually a football club again making ambitious appointments rather than jobs for the boys!

Darren Eales coming in as the new CEO, following Ashworth’s arrival in May, confirmed that the two most important off-field positions at the club have been filled, but other less celebrated appointments have been significant.

Mark Leyland, the coach analyst, Liam Mason, the lead sports scientist, and Dave Galley, the physiotherapist, have joined under Howe and the sheer number of backroom staff on the trip highlighted the level of detail Newcastle now go into as they aim to create the best environment for improvement. Although the coaching numbers have swelled under Howe, everyone is there for a reason and provides a vital role.

Two chefs flew to Saalfelden to cook meals for the squad, while other staff members were on hand to provide players with real-time analysis, strength and conditioning advice and nutrition, including specially prepared protein shakes.

Away from the first team, in-house lawyers are being sought to oversee commercial contracts, and a new supporter liaison officer (SLO) is expected to be appointed.

Not to mention we flew our own club groundsmen to Saalfelden to look over and prep the pitch, I think weeks in advance. Grumble all you want about transfer activity - we're now a top-notch professional outfit, top-to-bottom.

Lee Marshall getting the boot then? Or moving to a different role?

What a load of fannying on to put on an image of professionalism. Lee Charnley and Steve Agnew could have covered most of those jobs between them and still have time to take the Sports Direct return parcels to the post office.

Hugely experienced bloke.

When he was at Liverpool he also helped diagnose Houlliers heart problem that led to the op that saved his life.

A great appointment. Someone who is used to dealing with the football establishment in this country and beyond. He’ll have the contacts and know the little tricks of the trade needed to get us in the right financial positions.
