Transfer rumours

Sorry if Giggs but have they said what happens to players out of contract and the transfer window coming up? I'm assuming the league wouldnt allow new players to be registered for the matches played to end this season. But if it happens and after july can clubs extend contracts of players to complete the season or will some sign elsewhere or walk away. Seems sketchy.

The FA (or probably FIFA) should be looking to change the rules regarding registration to get around the contracts quagmire - perhaps a player can’t transfer his league registration until his old club’s season has finished.

Shelvey is somewhat limited in some areas, but with stronger players around him surely the same applies to him - that he'd be better.

The problem is he is limited in the worst area for a footballer, his stamina and work rate. If you want to make a direct comparison, how about Yahya Toure? Thought he was the bee's knees, but his quality meant nothing at the top end of the Premier, where other teams could produce slightly less end product, but twice the energy to dominate games. Pep recognised this and binned him off when he got too comfortable.

What absolute nonsense. Toure was absolutely brilliant  Basically won Man City the league one of the years they won

I meant by the end of his time at Man City, when he wasn't the same player, either because of injury or age. Sorry should have made that clearer. He was obviously brilliant for the most part.

FIFA already likely to state a footballing contracts purpose is "until the end of the season", not June 30th, so players will have to see out their seasons should their respective leagues run over June 30th.

The FA's issue however is that British employment law counteracts FIFAs interpretation, so players in England can challenge FIFAs ruling and likely leave on a free on June 30th anyhow.

 Who exactly has contacted Barca?

It’s kind of mental how professional these lot are already. Apparently meeting with representatives of Mertens and Denis. Oh and we’ve been linked with Tanguy Kouassi

That's why I would have thought player registration rather than contracts should be the focus - it opens the regulatory bodies to restraint of trade action from players/clubs at new clubs they can't play for, but surely FIFA/FA can say who they will or won't register? And would a legal challenge survive a judge saying "But coronavirus"?

Yeah, the same would happen here. Spanish courts do have a established history of putting regular labor law above FIFA/UEFA rules.
