Baptism of fire for him this week and last. He's handled it very well imo, the best defenders in the world are shit scared of Haaland, so it's no reflection on Botman that he struggled in some moments. The pace of the game will have been a good learning experience for him.

Thought he was excellent whenever the ball was played into Haaland to hold up.

He's looked a bit nervous and is trying to adjust his game to the pace of the Premiership. We'll need to wait a few games before we judge him.

And I'd like to see how it goes with a Burn-Bottman partnership. Burn adds leadership to our defending and I like to see him in the centre.

Find it hard to see this any other way like. Was great vision and technique

I said somewhere else, we all know Man City have the quality to destroy teams in a 15 minute spell, we lost our concentration for a brief period, after our third goal, but they equalised in the 64th minute [I think], we held them for 30 minutes after that. Not bad for his home debut, all in all.

Guest HTT II

I’ve said it a few times, he seems very calm, very business like and like a robot, he was under immense pressure yesterday, but never seemed flustered. Ice cold veins is what they say? He will be fine for us, absolutely, we do need pace in that back line, however!

For me so far we may not have seen how good he is defensively, but we have seen how he can impact our playstyle with his calmness and passing out from the back.

He also hasn't exactly had much chance to form a partnership with Schar yet.

That was more obvious yesterday and perhaps this is the reason that he wasn't getting in ahead of Burn.

He will be a fantastic player for us. Since we have a squad we should use it and rotate the CHs whenever possible. Against the elite teams it's still Burn and Schar for me until Botman matures.

He's one of very few players we have with Champions League experience even if he is young. I don't think we've paid £30m plus for that.

Needs to up his aggression in the English game.

If he was anymore aggressive he would have been sent off for pulling down Haaland. I think with last night's game fresh in the mind, any demands for more aggression, should be tempered for now.

He reads danger well but his execution of dealing with said danger so far has been a bit patchy so far. All good, I think that's just a pace adjustment thing.

Yeah. It's been a hell of an introduction for him, tbf. Brighton, Man City then Burt Reynold's Mean Machine, is a hell of a baptism.

He put in a lovely block/dispossession on one of their players last night in the corner. Their player had a look of “what the fuck was that” as Sven came away with the ball.

The last part of that game was manic and everyone got caught up in it but he did well along with Trippier in calming it down just enough, he’s learning quickly.

He’s been nurtured and wrapped in cotton wool as a potential elite player his entire life. Tranmere away on a Wednesday night will have been like landing on the moon for him. Nasty elbowing hacking brawl in the classic English cup tie tradition. He did alright under the circumstances and Howe will have been watching him for his reaction and resilience.

He got that header in from the corner with the defender having 2 goes at holding him back. Brushed him off with ease.

From Tranmere’s hackers to the Black Country Lisbon Exiles on Sunday is one hell of a pivot stylistically.

An eye opener for him. The British lads have all been brought up with that to varying degrees. Will have introduced him to some of the realities of English footbaaaaal. ?
