gbandit Posted May 23, 2022 Share Posted May 23, 2022 I reckon Howe is having an honest discussion with him about the fact he could conceivably sign for us but not be a starter because of how he wants to set the team up. If he isn’t signed up soon then I don’t think we’ll sign him at all which would be absurd on one hand but also make a bit of sense on another. His application and defensive talent is fantastic but if Howe wants to set the team up in a different way then I could understand it. I think ideally Eddie want's a more attacking left back, these Renan Lodi links are getting to the same stage as Trippier (but also Botman/Carlos) was in Jan. I think they're hoping they can get Lodi in, but that Targett will still be there if that falls through. I also think there is something to be said for being loyal to players who have done very well for you, keeps dressing rooms and fans on side on same page. It's amazing value for someone who is pretty much at least 7/10 every game and already part of the squad. They must really rate Lodi to potentially go out and spend a lot more on him and hope he can settle in and defend well in this league and a back 4. I wonder if Howe wants the flexibility to switch to a 3atb at times? Or maybe similar to how Liverpool setup with narrower wide forwards and really attacking fullbacks?
