Newcastle United vs Liverpool, Saturday 30/4/2022 @ 12:30 (BT)

Recommended Posts

Went to Uni in Liverpool and lived there for 5 years in the early 90's.  Had a great time and the people were generally great and made friends for life.

My dislike for Liverpool football club mainly comes from being on the wrong end of results, namely both 4-3's at Anfield and a couple of incidents at the games..!  All clubs have supporters who are perceived in a certain way, and they do exist.  However, like most football clubs, most fans are decent enough..

I think Scousers as people are absolutely fine, usually a great sense of humour and good craic. It's as a fanbase I can't stand them. Liverpool supporters seem to think they have a divine right to be the best club in England, and tbf they have been for the past 50 years or so. But it just rubs me up the wrong way, I usually want them to lose against just about everybody. It's not necessarily fair or logical, but that's just the way it is.

I lived near Liverpool for a couple of years, it reminds me of Newcastle in that the City always has a buzz and most folk are friendly.

That said, I can't be doing with large elements of Liverpool's fan base i) they seem to have a larger moron element then most. Attacking team buses, assaulting opposition fans, etc. Unfortunately, I've experienced this first hand ii) along with Man United they have the glory supporting contingent, along with with the media fawning that makes watching any of their games unbearable.

One of my good mates at uni is a scouser. Evertonian, but a sound lad. No animosity between us ever when it comes to the football like there seems to be online hence why I'm not really arsed if Everton go down or not.

Red scousers I've met are the same, all sound. All fucking hate the Tories.

It's the arrogant Liverpool fans who aren't scousers that do my tits in. Largely bell ends that lot, honestly.

With LFC for me it’s mainly because of how many in the media are pro LFC, that and the glory hunters and their victim mentality. Meet a Scouser Blue or Red and don’t talk football and they are sound, same with mackems and to be fair most sets of fans. I find our own fanbase insufferable at times, the online brigade the most. Wraith for example is the biggest cretin of all and now you have this Adam Johnson (I mean Pearson) creep… they are the equivalent of getting your phone out to video your team’s penalty for social media purposes, just fucking watch the match, cheer on you team, shut the fuck up afterwards, enjoy it and go home. Basically what Gervais told the Hollywood lot at the Oscars!

Most I've met have been absolute wankers. Arrogant as fuck. Summed up by the whole scouse not English shite they like to spout. Think they're summit special

The  “ We’re not English, we are course” thing comes from the fact that Liverpool has a different ethnic make up than other English cities, with most having Scottish or Irish heritage rather than English.

It also comes from the way Liverpool has been demonised and ostracised in the national psyche following both their fierce resistance to Thatcher and the Hillsbrough disaster. I honestly think the working class in this country failed as a collective in the way, we just allowed that to happen without showing any solidarity.

How on earth did so many left wing working class socialists even, choose the Murdoch press over the city of Liverpool?

I think that sums it up in one sentence quite nicely for me.

Love it when they lose.

The sad thing is, as a team, how they play, their style, Klopp as a manager and coach, I absolutely love the fuck out of it all and the fact it’s been done without a state owned owner like us or City or an Abramovic is made all the more remarkable. Mind, I wouldn’t mind the PEDs they are on…

Bit of this. My dislike for them is about 80% their fans. From seeing them rushing gates at SJP in the 70s, the snide attacks when on Merseyside (I think Brummie touched on their tactic of being friendly and welcoming till they massively outnumber you, lived it a few times). It came as no surprise to us of an older generation when a fan got his ticket ripped from his hands and captured on TV it was LFC on LFC.

20% Growing up with plastic Liverpool fans in Newcastle.

Liverpool as a city btw can be unhinged, I was working about a decade ago a street away from Goodisom and some ‘La while I was sitting in my van sorting an invoice out, wanted to know if I wanted to buy a phone, it was my fucking phone I stupidly left in the van, I chased him up the street and all of a sudden there was a gang of them, armed, we didn’t finish the job. Another time in Liverpool we used a commercial recycling centre to tip off on a weekend and they didn’t have their card machines to take payment and the security/weigh bridge man wouldn't accept cash. Ring the office on the Monday. I forgot all about it and a week or so later I got a call from someone saying if we don’t pay what we owe ASP, well we know where you live, turns out they were a gangster owned firm, right nasty bastards. Another time we did a job and the lads found some coke and a canny bit of cash, we said nowt, but were told in no uncertain terms not to ever say anything. Not that we would! Type my name into Google, we did, shit…. Full of scallywags as they say, but most are harmless and it’s not like Newcastle isn’t the same. Again walk along Benwell (DONT)! It can be a scary place along with Manchester and Glasgow for for that kind of shit!

Yeah the way they play their football, and their manager's ability ( although he's a bit of a cunt) is outstanding, if it was any other team bar Liverpool, I'd be cooing over them. In the end though I can't stand them, which is a shame because there's that Liverpool poster @rgk_lfc who is a fantastic contributor here.

Soz lad, nothing personal, but every time I see your team strutting out to the Walk Alone drunken droning, the red mist starts coming down.

Lived in Manchester for two years and used to go out with a lass from Liverpool so been there plenty times

Personally prefer Manchester as a city because its far more modern and laidback in my opinion but Liverpool has some interesting bits about it. I don't mind Liverpool as a club because of many NUFC/Liverpool connections over the years in terms of players/managers but last few years started to grow a disliking to a lot of LFC fans I have come across, perhaps because they've become successful again, I don't know.

If we lose these next two with a 4-0 aggregate I'll take it. Though it doesn't really matter like the Spurs game in the overall trajectory it stays on the permanent record.

Don't know how I feel about them now. There's good (the YNWA Ronaldo chant) and bad (smashing up coaches). Klopp is perfect for them, half likable and charming gobshite half drug fuelled too much with a hint of prickish arrogance.
