I'm not sure number of shots taken is indicative of very much at all tbh.

Yea, if you score early in games you are likely to have less shots as you try and defend the lead etc.

Biggest issue is the quality of chances. This stat would suggest City are over achieving in terms of goals scored.

Man City create quality chances. A lot of their goals are ultimately tap-ins. Shots from within the 6 yard box. They don’t take that many speculative shots from distance.

Expected goals is a better indication of fret.

An FA spokesman said: 'Winning teams will be awarded with non-alcoholic 'champagne' for their celebrations in all FA competitions, starting from this year's Emirates FA Cup Final.

'This is to ensure that we are as inclusive as possible to players and communities who may be prohibited from alcohol, as well as any players who are under 18.'

I don’t see the problem with it. Alcohol is a major problem in society, and it’s being replaced with an non-alcoholic version.

Thing is with stats, some of them are interesting so you hire a statistician, then realise that there isn't really a lot for them to do, so they waste their time collating statistics that actually mean fuck all.

Estimated goals? FFS.

Agreed. Too much emphasis on stats nowadays. Becoming far too Americanised in the sense that their popular sports rely heavily on stats for analysis. How do you quantify heart, passion, flair etc? You don’t.

Is there an xG version of this? That'd be interesting.

It's a problem because it is ingrained in our culture.. Having a non-alcoholic substitutwe doesn't change that.

Looking forward to next seasons winners being handed a bottle of Coke (which has to face the camera, and be carried by the player at all times) with their winners medal.

Former Barça prez Sandro Rosell absolved from money laundering during his dealings with the Brazilian FA (that was before he became our president). This was one of the legs FIFAgate, and reading the sentence it sounds like "dude was probably dirty, but it's not proven beyond reasonable doubt".

He's spent two years in jail awaiting trial...

I never take xG stats serious since they viewed the Moussa Sissoko chance at Liverpool as a 11% chance of a goal type chance

"Heart" and "passion" doesn't need to be quantified as it's just bullshit

So atmosphere IE. passion doesn't play a part in a game of football?

I'll add a few more key elements of football which cannot be quantified...

Leadership, determination, spirit, tenacity, drive...

I've seen football matches won by those qualities many times.

Flip side, Fulham spending 100m totally destroyed the team that got them promoted

I don’t agree.

If they played the team they came up with for a full season with Jokanovic as manager I honestly think they would have conceded over 100 goals and ended up on like 9 points.

Their board were the ones that actually gave them a chance of staying by giving Jokanovic over £100million problem was he setup his team in a way that gave them absolutely no chance of staying up.

Rafa would have kept up that £100million Fulham squad easily.

most succesful promoted teams don't do what fulham did. Sure add to the squad but for the first season at least most sides keep the core of the promotion team and replace that team over time. Tbh I don't think its ever a great idea to make wholesale changes to a team in one window

A few key quality additions and squad strengthening is what promoted teams need. Fulham destroyed their pattern of play (which was probably the best in the Championship for 2 years) and any team understanding, they will now destroy their squad and morale when the majority of players leave.
