Always think it’s an obligation of respect for Man Utd and the Munich Air Disaster how Duncan Edwards always appears high up on these lists.

Poor fucker was only 21 when he died but what did he do to be above Xavi and Iniesta?

These lists are absolutely impossible to do, I don't care how much football you've watched and how much intelligence you have regarding it.

With that said he's clearly a grade a bellend.

Any list that doesn't start with Messi then Ronaldo is obvious bait for 14 year old Angolans. The rest of the list is AI generated.

Serious question though, why is Garrincha held so highly in all of these lists? I get Pele because his numbers for club and country tell you a lot without seeing him, but most footage of Garrincha is him body feigning and leaving the ball behind, which most defenders nowadays would just toe poke away

My first thought was that they just asked Chat GPT for this list.

I mean, a good example where AI is probably just as good as a human since the task is completely futile anyway.

Tbf the footage I have seen of Garrincha makes him look class. But I have long held this opinion that a lot of the old guys have a mystique around them because there weren't on TV 2-3 times a week so weren't over-exposed to the public.

I don't blame anyone for this but I heard so many stories about guys growing up who people only saw at the WC. Then when you ask what they were like week to week you get no answer back.

So it makes me believe it.

Aye a lot of it is mystique although I do appreciate that a lot of this will come originally from people who watched them a lot back then. Tricky players especially I'm always dubious of though due to how much defending has changed, you see it with the step up in leagues where the output of skillful wingers often drops dramatically.

As a side point there's a really good JLA video about Beckham which suggested he'd be right up there in today's game physically, so a lot of the assumptions of improved fitness might not be as much as people expect from some players from the past.

even as a dyed-in-the-wool nostalgist who hates most of modern football, the comparison just doesn't stand up - it's now completely normal to have a 6' 4" centre-half who can comfortably run at speeds you only just to see in wingers. and they weren't fit enough to press either, like you watch old clips of cruyff etc. and he'll have two defenders stood about ten feet away watching him take the piss out of them.

Honestly I'm normally pretty traditoinalist when it comes to football, but I'd happily sack off boxing day matches. Caused many a family argument, or at least tension, growing up -especially away ones.

As someone who has a daughter with a birthday on Boxing Day, I wholeheartedly concur.

I think the ‘daylight’ rule for offside would be an interesting change. I’d guess it would lead to more goals (and more defenders being sent off!). Wish they would do something about all the wrestling in the box which goes on at corners and free kicks. Doesn’t solve all of the Aikido-like shit that goes on, but enforcing any shirt/short grabbing as a foul/immediate yellow would change behaviour and be relatively easy to spot/enforce.

Charlton went down after selling us Parker I think and he scored a great goal for us down there so that would have been around 2007? Think we missed Cov  last time in championship and Boro too.  I was down boro for the 2-2 in the championship and our train window got put through, thats the last time we played them im sure.

Boro used to be a class Derby not just saying this to be different but I always thought it was bigger than Sunderland and a quite a couple people still properly hate them. Id love it if they came up me
