I'm still not expecting it; anything could happen and I'm not 100% confident until we stop having two or three starters out every damn week. BUT..

I don't think it can be understated just how big being best of the rest could be in our first full season under this ownership and Howe. An immediate, extremely noticeable impact that could lure a few names in that otherwise would've waited a year or two. The sky could be the limit a lot faster than I originally hoped.

Almost a third of the way through the season and we are sitting pretty with 1 defeat, 5 clean sheets and the best defence in the league, and we still haven’t been able to field our strongest 11!

Howe has done an incredible job, no reason why we can’t get 7th if we can continue with this level of performance.

Keep the pace and strengthen in January and we're well on our way imo. The league isn't that great outside of the top 6 really is it? I'm certainly not seeing anyone who I'd value better than us. And in the second half of the season we have the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd and even our possible rivals Brighton at SJP so on paper the first half of the season definitely looks tougher and we're doing brilliant so far.

We've given ourselves a brilliant foundation as you say. Coming up there's very winnable fixtures against Villa and Southampton, between two very difficult ones against other teams within the current top 6 (opportunities).

There's every chance we go into the break still in those European places. Who's to say we couldn't stay in that fight, especially with at least one quality January addition?

Wouldn't rule out this being a special season tbh.

This is it for me. We're 7th DESPITE our injury problems. Would fucking love to see a full squad have a run of 10 games or so. Think we'd administer a few hidings.

7th is definitely on. Maybe a place or 2 higher.

If we fade away or injuries finally bite us result wise I don't in anyway see that as a bad season or failure. We were a laughing stock of the league at the start of last season what a turn around of fortunes. If we finish top 10 we have progress top 8 sets a clear progression/target for the next season. Top 6 feels like a dream that was only possible on football manager or fifa up until very very recently.

Not sure if I’m missing something but shouldn’t we have been on track for 63 points after Wolves? Says on track for 62 before Wolves then 0 required but 1 point gained, but stays at on track for 62?

With the congested season i can see the points total be lower this year for 7th. Wouldn't say I'm fully confident yet but I don't see a serious challenger amongst the pack around us. West Ham aren't great and have European football to deal with and I don't think Brighton as good as they are will score enough goals. It's there for the taking.

Does anyone reckon the World Cup break is to our advantage? A chance to get lads back from injury, others to overcome fatigue, and for Eddie to work with them.

With an overperforming team (which is how many view us), normally you don't want a break because it risks breaking the momentum.

Personally, I do not think we are overperforming because we are near the top in lots of stats categories.

Massive advantage to be fair. We don’t have a lot of players going like the other top clubs do, so it’ll be a big break for a lot of our lads that other clubs don’t have the advantage of. And that’s not even to mention that we’re not in Europe so the clubs in Europe have to make up even more matches and play a lot more minutes.

I think we need to invest in January and if we do, then we realistically could, comfortably, be in the top 7 if not higher.
