Your "reserves" cost more than Newcastle XI most likely. Wages added definitely.

It's a good job they won with a clean sheet in that case, especially given how much Pogba cost.

We were both absolutely shite but on a side note why was it only Man United who had injuries the other night? Our first choice goalkeeper, right back and centre half were all missing but all we kept hearing was how they had a few key players missing. Without looking I would say the team they put out still cost more than ours especially if you include wages.

I find it amusing we have several pages of arguing who was less crap in a game of two bald men fighting over a comb, neither team came out of that game with any kind of self respect, it was honking. It's like bragging you won the penis measuring competition by a nanometer, best left in the doldrums of history.

Wouldn't a penis measuring competition be testing who is the best at measuring penises rather than the length of the penis?  It would be a penis length competition if you're going for a winner in some metric of metres.  Unless you're measuring who can measure the most penis length in a given amount of time I suppose.

This is the problem with recency bias. You're saying you've never seen us more on the backfoot against you, but it literally happened in the 0-2 last season. The first half in that game you dominated because you actually created chances, unlike this game. That was a far better performance.

I don't think Dalot or Sesko were offside either, and calling Hall's 25 yardspeculative effort a chance is generous despite how good of a strike it was.

Can we not say "missing a few players" as well please? It was pretty much all of our best players.

Again, this game shows nothing negative about the "current state" of our club. If anything it shows a bit of resilience that wasn't there before. A team this depleted would have been spanked last season.

We had 8 injuries to Man Utd’s 4.

The fact they failed to plan their squad around buying AFCON players is not unfortunate, it’s dumb.

For those late joining, please explain this.

Haha. I’ve been tracking us and who I thought might be our 4th-6th place contenders’ results compared to last season. So eg ManU lost at home to Wolves last season, so were actually +1 tonight.

For promoted teams use last seasons relegated teams. This is sometimes known as the Uncle Jeff coefficient in tb podcast circles.

Now im committed I can’t stop

I'm a bit scared of that Wolves game, it has high embarrassment potential.

Having seen a bit of them recently, their performance at home to Man Utd was absolutely dripping with WOAT vibes, but they were gutsy at Arsenal and also tonight, from what I saw. Feels like they might be easier to beat at Molineux.

Must win the next three to build momentum and start to get a streak of wins.

Tough games after that v Villa and Liverpool with PSG neatly sandwiched in between.

With the FA Cup and Carabao semi first leg, January is an absolutely huge month for us.

Could end up in the FA Cup 4th round, CL knockouts, a lead in the Carabao semi and 5 league wins including humbling Liverpool away. I’ll wank any of you off if that happened.

It doesn’t take long once I realised BBC shows last season’s score under the result (and remember our own).

i used to this for our own results on my wall score chart when i was a kid.

What a difference an away win plus Man U and Chelsea dropping points at home makes.

We are now 4 points plus GD off 5th. I still think its too much to ask but a run of wins in these next winnable fixtures, positive momentum and Wissa back and firing them in gives us a platform to really put pressure on for the Euro spots on once eventually knocked out the CL

I think these next three league matches are massive. Three very winnable games, should be winning really. Come out with 9 points and things could look quite bright.

As was evident tonight, Chelsea and ManU are shakey too. If Liverpool get their act together there are 4 teams better than the rest. 5-6th is quite open

We need to win these upcoming games and our home form has to continue for most of the season, have people seen our away fixtures coming up after Wolves?

That's why almost everyone has been moaning about the away form as it's been a pretty easy set of fixtures so far with a poor return.

Half the season done. We’re on 26 points. We have 10 more home games remaining. The target is 65 points. Let’s do this.

H- Palace: 3

H- Leeds: 3

A- Wolves: 3

H- Villa: 3

A- Liverpool: 0

H- Brentford: 3

A- Spurs: 1

A- City: 0

H- Everton: 3

H- Man Utd: 3

A- Chelsea: 1

H- Sunderland: 3

A- Palace: 1

H- Bournemouth: 3

A- Arsenal: 0

H- Brighton: 3

A- Forest: 3

H- West Ham: 3

A- Fulham: 1

Total: 66 points.

We’re 3rd, 5th and 6th in 3 xg tables I saw. I know we’ve been bad, but approximately 75% of the league are worse!

Keep calm, do our job at home.

Love the optimism of only losing 3 games, but then only getting a point last game at Fulham.

Opta see Chelsea only getting 60 pts. Its a weak (or competitive, take your pick) league so fifth might be as low as that. That doesn't mean we're going to get anywhere near that, but its a much easier target than 65.

In all comps, we are P28 W13 D6 L9 F47 A32 which if only league games would be 45 pts, 1.6 points a game with a very healthy goal difference, way better than Villa's and one that would normally coincide with more than 1.6 points a game. So we are pretty good as a club, just not good enough to compete on three fronts. We got statistically something like the fourth hardest CL draw, and have played Prem opposition twice out of three times in the Carabao. So the above totals have not been padded by facing weak opposition.

I'm not massively hopeful, but am more hopeful Pope is back now. I reckon Ramsdale cost us at least four points. Tonali's poor form concerns me, as does losing Tino, and Gordon and Elanga's extended struggles. Wissa looks up for it and didn't go to AFCON, so that's a big positive. The Isak money means we shouldn't have to sell to buy, or at least not a purple. If there is money there, I'd like to see it used, not least because we are still competing on four fronts. If our league woes continue, going all out in the FA Cup to try and win it and get Europa might be a wise move.

Sheesh - not much room for error for the rest of the season. Will be incredibly tight.
