100%.  Funny how Isak is a ‘rat’ despite consistently performing in the shirt, and Tonali is an all-round good lad despite this not being the case, spending a year giving ‘come and get me eyes’ to any club that looks, and being shite for that period to boot.

Both as bad as each other in my book , only difference is we seem more open to selling Tonali so he won't have to resort to going on strike like Isak did.

I suspect we may be open to selling him as maybe we need to sell to buy, and there's a fair bit we need to do.

Shame if he went, but after last season he's not irreplaceable, and if it's for the right amount and allows us to strengthen elsewhere as needed, fair enough.

Isak to Liverpool, Gordon to Barcelona are all a step up for each player (although it breaks my heart to say that! )

However Tonali to Spurs would put him in the one greedy bastard chant group for me.

London will always have that extra pull for foreign players but surely he was hoping for more!

Tonali left his boyhood club to come here, likely because he was getting a pay rise and/or knew he was going to get banned. Spurs will give him another pay rise. If a club tells his agent they will offer him more money next season he will look to move again. It’s that simple sometimes.

Isn't part of it simply : Isak wanted to leave after our most successful season (of my lifetime), and we wanted to keep the team, whereas after last season, generally feels like nobody is a must-keep

Aye fans prefer it if you

1. Make flirty eyes to other clubs all season

2.  Be inconsistent on the pitch so as to not further increase your transfer fee

3. Be inconsistent so the fans aren’t that sad to see you go

4. Give up on matches for Newcastle so you’re fit and ready for international football/new club

5. Sign new contract with club but do number 1 anyway

So you faked bad performances in order to get a move to Spurs?

Isak put in half-arsed efforts after the Cup win and then went on strike and totally disrespected the club in order to force a cut-price transfer.

Tonali bust a gut for us throughout the season (albeit he misplaced the occasional pass) and might conceivably go on strike but in reality has shown absolutely no inclination to actually do so.

So they're both pretty much the same tbh.

Obviously the money we will get will be good just a big reality check that one of our better players would rather play for Spurs, always said the London pull is huge.

We really need a good summer and a fast start...

Or rebuild our club brick by brick down London.

100% the optics isn't great like.

I read that we refused an 80 million bid. I'd take 80 if true.

Its only June, we may as well spin it out for at least another month

It’s not the London thing primarily, it’s the ambition. Spurs are really going for it now, how successful they will be who knows.

We aren’t and our ambition peaked when we signed Tonali and we haven’t really kicked on.

They're also able to give £250k a week contracts. They'll have a few on that sort of wage. We can't get anywhere near that. Zero to do with ambition.

Guess you're right.

What worries me most isn't Tottenham. It's that Newcastle increasingly feels like a club with an identity crisis. A couple of years ago we were the exciting project on the rise, signing players like Tonali and talking about closing the gap to the elite. Today we've sold Gordon, are going to sell Tonali, are missing out on targets and nobody seems entirely sure what the next phase is supposed to look like.

That uncertainty is far more concerning to me than anything Tottenham are doing.

We won a cup since he signed?

Madness how people can't see this , he's going to Spurs for one reason and one reason only and that's 250k a week. He clearly isn't bothered about winning and challenging for titles and trophies or even playing Champions League football.

And failed spectacularly to build on that momentum.

Winning the cup should have been the launchpad. Instead it increasingly feels like it was the peak. We desperately need some good news on incoming transfers...
