NUFC Transfer Rumours

Overall our recruitment has been superb since Howe and PIF arrived.

Bruno, Trippier, Botman, Tonali, BDB, Tino, Hall, Izak, Barnes, Osula all excellent acquisitions. Not only ability but great character and attitude too.

That level of success in the market is down to a whole team of people. We're actually quite good at this transfer market stuff nowadays.

Maybe just a bit of patience needed right now.

We were good at it, we no longer have the same team in place to do transfers and haven’t made a first team signing in 18 months. Time will tell if we are still as capable.

Jonathan David heading to Juve, i really thought he'd be perfect for us as he can play in multiple roles and has the quality required.

Are we a bigger draw than Juventus? Genuine query, I know the Italian league has less money, but they are still a massive club.

I expect us to do this later in the window tbh. I'm sure Eddie would prefer to sign the likes of Mbuemo and Pedro, but once those possibilities have gone, then we can start bolstering the squad with the best of the rest.

Hopefully this is the case and we haven’t just missed out on a few opportunities.

I think we probably have missed out on our top targets but how realistic they were is the question. If the biggest clubs in the world/cartel clubs are after the same players then we aren't necessarily going to be favourites for the signatures.

Yep. My concern would be missing out on those top targets, which were always a long shot, then those good promising squad players who aren’t necessarily brought in to start have already been snapped up. Stories of a shift in focus at this point aren’t promising. Granted, the article i saw was from Liam Kennedy.

That's the issue with Wilson though isn't it? Regardless of weather he's finished or not he simple can't perform the role of a back up or squad player because he always misses chunks of the season.

He simply can't perform this role and he shouldn't even be considered.

That's a separate issue though. On paper we'd have a first-choice striker, an experienced back up and a prospect back up which is about right. Similar to the CM situation. On paper you've got the main three, two senior backups and a prospect which is about right too if you think two players per position. Need one or two of them gone before you can replace at the moment.

Agreed, fast becoming a thing of the past tense

It just feels to me like we're all shopping in the same small pool.

Is it a lack of varied top talent that's available, PSR or something else.

Feels to me like we’re not shopping with any serious intent.

I hope you’re right. From the outside looking in it seems to me that there are off-field issues which are preventing us from moving with the required speed and decisiveness.

When it comes to football snobbery, Juventus are a bigger draw. Playing in the Italian sunshine, surrounded by beautiful Italian architecture or playing under the grey clouds and pissing rain of the northest of north surrounded by shabby council estates. Then they look at the histories of both clubs, again there is only one winner. They don't look at the future and potential of a club like Newcastle.

It's a shame,but it's true. It's a big obstacle to overcome.

I take comfort in the fact that John Salako was our first choice signing in the 1995 for a wide player, didn't get him, we ended up with our fall-back option - David Ginola.

That's not quite how it happened. Ginola wanted more money, so we went after Salako. It got to the point that he was in the ground negotiating but Ginola dropped his demands, so we signed him instead. Ginola was always first choice.
