NUFC Transfer Rumours

I'm surprised you think you come on the forum and make outlandish statements such as comparing us with Chelsea, wanting to be in the Europa League rather than Champions League and claiming we should be signing cheap squad players for £10-15mil who probably won't improve us (but unable to name any names) and expect not to get queried

I'm surprised you want us to spend premium prices on players who don't improve the XI, at the cost of not having a squad to cover all positions, having no youth players coming through, and wanted us to fail PSR by not buying young players and taking a chance and selling our best players as a consequence.

Who would you have bought instead?

I think it's all fine wanting to aim for purely top, proven players.

When was the last time we signed one of the those?

Hell of a risk not getting a CB/LB - yes we have to be careful who we bring in but there seems to be money to spend.  This is what Kieran Maguire said on how much Newcastle could spend in January:
"They are in a really strong position. They made a huge profit on Isak, they have got the benefit of Champions League money. Newcastle could drop £200m across this window and the next window and still be well within the limits.

"Even if they sign a defender for £30m-£40m in January, they would only have six months of amortisation to throw into the equation. So a £40m defender on a five-year contract for six months only works out at a £4m cost, plus his wages, but they have got nothing to worry about.

"They get €2m just for one victory in the Champions League so they are in Position A when it comes to recruiting."

For us to sign an LB / CB there has to be a club willing to sell a player that we want to buy and who wants to join.

Signing players isn’t like being Richard Gere in Pretty Woman where you throw a few dolla dolla bills about and get to do the nasty with Julia Roberts for a week.

Hate the ‘who would we buy’ argument. Not like we have scouts around the world, with a data spreadsheet of loads of players. We know as much as English based players and top European leagues, which seems like that’s where our scouts knowledge goes as far too :D

It's weak (the argument); designed to start the it's not FM retort. Cba with it.

If West Ham go down, I’d consider taking Diouf as the LB option. Still raw, but something to work with having had 12 months development in Prem. Complete different profile to Hall.

Can’t see West Ham getting what they paid for so could be a £15m buy, with add ons.

Are we supposed to be taking this argument seriously? Just buy 4 or 5 players for 15m instead of players the manager actually wants?

Is that the argument? Obviously not just buy random players. There's no reason he couldn't be aware of some players other than £40m+ ones.

We needed players who were ready to step in an be able to play at champions League level and in the league competing for a champions league spot.

It's totally different to sides who really only need to avoid relegation. If Brighton or someone finish 9th or 15th it doesn't really make that much of a difference to them. They can sign a load of gambles, give them a load of game time and not have to worry about results that much. If they hit the jackpot and then can flip one for a massive profit then it covers all the ones that don't.

These £15m players wouldn't develop the same way here on limited minutes as they would elsewhere either.

I've said before that our 'punts' are on the likes of Bruno at £35m rather than £15m unknowns. So basically players just under the immediate radar of the top tier teams.

Our £15m gambles are the likes Minteh who are bought to go on loan to build value

Aye he’s good and I like him, same with Bueno. Both need work defensively but they've got all the attributes to succeed.

Howe should just good players for cheap. It’s not hard. Every manager bar him does it all the time.

On the other hand those who say we should have signed £15mil players can't name a single one we should have signed in the summer
