NUFC Transfer Rumours

You’ve seen what PL teams (and players) have been doing in Europe, no?

You've seen what Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton have done by scouting outside of the PL, right?
We can't shop at the top table - the cartel clubs just hoover up the best PL players. We need to stop signing the next tier down because they're PL-experienced, and start taking chances on players from other leagues/countries. There's a reason we had a free run at players like Elanga and Ramsey - none of the cartel clubs wanted them. Why?

We hired a South American specialist scout earlier this year when Wilson came in, he brought him from Forest. Would make sense if we're ready to start making some moves in that market.

I’ve seen them achieve fuck all.

And we've achieved what exactly, apart from going backwards?
Bournemouth and Brentford are above us in the league and play better football than us, having spent a hell of a lot less. Brighton haven't the best season but no one can deny their scouting and acquisition model has been a success.

I'd be amazed if we let four first team players leave in one summer.

It might not be up to the manager/club. If the players want to leave there isn't much the club can do except for getting the best price possible.

Except play well above their means and remain staples of the EPL instead of being yo-yo clubs.

We need to take lessons from the southern spreadsheet clubs but we also need to aim much higher than them.

It’s an easy point to say we should just focus on second tier players, but we have bigger ambitions than that.

With the quality we have now we should be able to add a mix of squad and starter players hopefully, to make us more consistent. That combined with a much easier fixture list should make for a good season.

What are peoples thoughts on order of priority for the summer, as things stand?

I would go:

GK

Striker

RW

Worried replacement centre mid and right back will become top priority.

Bruno, Joelinton, Isak, Botman, and Thiaw all came from European clubs and aside from Hall, and Miley they have arguably been our best players in recent seasons.

The question is would you rather spend £40m for another Bruno from Europe, or £40m for another Elanga or Wissa from a Premier League club?

You are becoming very, errr, entertaining, Holmesy.

Brighton’s model is collapsing or at best it has a very limited ceiling. They’re now at the point where they’re not really finding players who are good enough - or will ever be good enough - to play at the level required to progress.

Watson 12m - loaned out

Coppola 12m - loaned out

Gruda 28m - loaned out

O’Reilly 25m - loaned out

Osman 15m - loaned out

Cashin 7m - loaned out

Yalcouye 5m - loaned out

Tzimas 25m - no starts now injured

Barco 8m - sold small loss

Buonanotte 5m - loaned out

Adingra 10m - profit

Enciso 5m - profit

Igor Julio 15m - loaned out

They will turn/have turned a profit on some of these but that is the scope of their success.

Absolutely nothing model that we should only look to replicate if we’re wanting to finish consistently mid-table alongside them.

edit: the truth is that if you want reliably PL quality signings then you will need to be spending £40m a pop.

In modern football you can only exploit undervalued markets or types of players for a certain amount of time everybody else catches up. And that period is going to get shorter and shorter.

Every team has an entire office full of people crunching the numbers on this stuff now. It's impossibly hard to find hidden gems that others missed to begin with, even harder to keep doing it consistently.

The way good recruiting teams are able to differentiate themselves today is going to be negotiations, relationship building, PSR management, and helping players succeed once they're already in the door.

Also being overlooked is the fact that Howe is very strict on bringing in those who he can get solid references on, harder to that with players from South America and such unless you build up the contacts there.

People always quote ‘PL experience’ but for me it’s as much about knowing the character of the player, which is obviously easier to do with a player people in the league already know.

The no toxic personality thing is huge, look at Spurs.

Brighton have a few exceptions (mainly the ones sold to Chelsea), but Wissa & Kerkez for example have went from these clubs to CL clubs and failed. Maybe they go to Brentford & Bournemouth for a reason?

That's not the question at all, that's just comparing past signings.
