Obviously neither Arsenal or Chelsea will do us a favour so it’s a question of how much they want the wages of the books.

Obviously it’s Baldwards crawled out from his wine stained hangover weekender so it’s speculative bollox. Andersen please  Oh and Chiesa on loan to buy [emoji38]

I mean, these aren’t new names so they are pretty safe links.

Loan deal without an obligation would be perfect, can’t see either of them going for that mind.

I think Arsenal will give themselves some FFP wiggle room by selling Balogun for decent coin.

Chelsea seemingly don’t give a fuck but likely to capitalise on West Ham or Spurs’ heavy pockets by flogging Gallagher for £50m. Whether that’s enough to keep them the right side of the numbers when/if they’re splashing £50m on Lavia is open to debate.

Also Chilwell appears to be made of glass and they may not be willing to let him go with Hall out on loan at Palace.

Tierney would be ideal. He’s 4th or 5th choice at Arsenal and unlikely to make their 25 man squad. Zinchenko, Timber, Tomiyasu and Kiwior all ahead of him apparently.

My Arsenal supporting mate absolutely raves about him, reckons he’s better than all of the above as an out and out LB but says Arteta prefers the others because they’re more flexible.

Reckon a loan with an obligation of he plays 20-25 games would be a good deal. Can see us going big on a RCB and a RW next summer then.

Can we stop all talking about FFP for fuck sake?

It seems almost all football commentary is based of VAR or FFP. Bores me to death.

Probably in the wrong thread then mate

Loan option also lets them see how he adapts to their training and assess the injury risk given his history. Would be a great signing though I think.

Newcastle United want either Kieran Tierney or Marc Cucurella on loan

Exclusive: The club are looking to bolster their defensive resources but have to be wary of FFP in making any deals

ByLuke Edwards, NORTHERN FOOTBALL WRITER14 August 2023 • 7:00am

Newcastle United are looking to sign a left back on loan before the close of the transfer window with both Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella of interest to them.

Only one will arrive on Tyneside, but Newcastle have been given reason to believe that both would like to make the move and are looking to progress talks.

Both deals would include either an option or an obligation to buy the player next summer and there is some confidence a breakthrough can be reached with at least one of their Premier League rivals.

Newcastle, in an ideal world, would also like a similar sort of move for a right-sided centre back, but sources have told Telegraph Sport there is not much on offer in the market for this type of deal and they do not want to bring a player in just for the sake of it.

The club would be willing to cover the cost of the player’s wages but have previously found it difficult to deal with clubs who now perceive them to be a rival for a Champions League place. That remains the big stumbling block although, Arsenal in particular, are thought to be very keen to find a move for Tierney.

They would prefer to sell the Scotland international at this stage, but a compromise could be reached that would defer the fee for another 12 months which would help Newcastle navigate their way through FFP concerns.

Given the nature of the deal it could be that it has to wait until closer to deadline day, as Arsenal will still hope to part with the 26-year-old and get the money in now.

Tierney had an excellent start to his career in north London but is no longer the first-choice left back and wants to play regularly. He would compete with Dan Burn and Matt Targett at St James’ Park.

Burn is a specialist centre back who played almost every game at left-back last season and did so again in the opening day victory over Aston Villa

Dealing with Chelsea has been far more difficult for Newcastle in recent times. Chelsea quoted an asking price of more than £50 million when the the club enquired about midfielder Conor Gallagher back in January and rebuffed several other loan offers in the same window.

But the London club are under pressure to offload players again having spent a British record £115 million on midfielder Moisies Caicedo this week.

Cucurella, 25, only arrived at Stamford Bridge from Brighton for £60 million 12 months ago but failed to impress last season and did not feature in Chelsea’s draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

As with Tierney, Chelsea would prefer to sell the Spain international but Newcastle will offer to take him on loan instead, with a small up fee attached and an option or obligation to buy.

Newcastle have already signed Sandro Tonali (£56 million), Harvey Barnes (£38 million) and Tino Livramento (£32 million) in this window and have only sold Allan Saint Maximin to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia for £25 million. That means their net spend is around £101 million this summer, which is close to their entire summer budget as defined by Financial Fair Play Rules.

Newcastle, who are still looking abroad for possible alternatives if their domestic rivals refuse to reach a compromise, are also looking to loan or sell Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick.

Chelsea sending out a player out on loan that they signed less than 12 months ago for £60m would be hilariously on brand like.

The guy trying to show how Chelsea stay within FFP has them selling him for £47m. He also has them selling an injured Broja for £30m. Hilarious.

Incidentally they’re failing badly. The argument is they’ll aim to blow out this season with the hope they can recover it by next year when they are back in Europe.

Puke forgetting we also sold Wood and Darlow this summer. Granted we got next to nowt for Darlow but £15m for Wood was a hefty chunk.

Tierney >>>>>>>> Cucurella. Weird that we're going for someone completely different to what got us into the CL.

Or was it we made the most of what we had? The lads did a great job for what we needed (a relegation battle at one stage)

But you would not be looking to buy either Burn or Targett as your future lb options if they were on the market today.

Could’ve mention Darlow but like you say fee almost irrelevant but he did make it clear this Summer. Wood was confirmed after he’d played 3 games but his fee will help FFP.

Also if you do the math the £75m approx budget looks right all along with the ASM sale giving us that wriggle room for 1 o 2 financially creative signings it seems. £101-£15.4=£76.4. Add Shelvey sale too and that figure closer to £75m.
