NUFC Transfer Rumours

Don't underestimate the effect of people believing everything they read on the Twatter about who we're allegedly trying to sign

Romano and the other habitual bullshitters make false claims about our interest and people lap them up, then people say its a failure when that player signs for someone else

I'm not saying we haven't struggled to bring some players in that we genuinely attempted to sign, but I bet only a tiny % of "links" that get shared on NO have any basis in truth

I agree. But I’m not sure that makes the club look any better. Whether it is for the players the journo gobshites say we failed to sign, other players we have failed to land or that we are just not trying for any striker at all, which is doubtful, of course.

The fact still remains that we are two weeks away from the window closing, approaching game week 2….. Sorry, matchday 2/our second league game of the season  and we don’t currently have any senior strikers available at the club.

It’s hardly ideal, to put it politely.

It could just be that there's a bunch of people on here think it's all a piece of piss, this signing players malarkey, and they base their entire philosophy on assumption, conjecture, media grifting and hundreds of hours on FM2024

We've had 18 months to do the groundwork and it would appear we've done fuck all. Obviously we can't legislate for other clubs coming in for the players we've targeted but our transfer window suggests none of the pre-work has been done. That could be down to the DoF situation but we should have learned our lesson from the last one that seemed to derail an important transfer window. Whatever it is, something has been neglected or poorly handled and I don't think that can be denied

Aye, we're stood in Dontinos, its 25 mins till closing time, the DJ is playing his Erection Section classics and we're mooching about at the side of the dancefloor on our own.

We tried to chat up a couple of worldies earlier in the night but lost out to Studley Goodfuck and Mike Oxlong.

There's no getting away from the fact the doomsday clock is rapidly approaching midnight, it's the cold hard truth.

We need excitement and we need it fast. But all is not yet lost.

I'd say the opposite. We've done extensive groundwork on a small number of very relevant targets. But we've been after the same players that the bigger boys want.

We seem to have been blindsided by other clubs stepping in, rather than not doing our homework. We've either been very naïve and overestimated how attractive we really are, or strung along by agents and clubs.

I think the big lesson to learn is that we don't have the stature or financial freedom to go after the brightest young starlets. We need to be going after the next pool down and trusting Eddie to turn those players into worldies.

I'm not even sure it’s entirely that either. The way PSR has changed the market is largely making this uncharted territory to some extent. I’d argue in a pre PSR world Liverpool don’t go big on Ekitike and likewise for Man Utd and Šeško. traditionally they’d have been bought by these clubs after they’d become proven in the PL at a club like Newcastle, Brighton or Bournemouth.

Do we have to pivot our approach to exploit different markets, such as slightly older players on cheaper fees or frees maybe once, the market is properly realigned on fees for that category of player

Agreed, but everything you've said there confirms exactly what I said - something has either been neglected or poorly handled - naivity, overestimation of how attractive we are, not anticipating other clubs coming in for our targets, not spreading our net wider.

Agree with this and would add that whatever plans we had were derailed by the Isak shenanigans, that's the root cause of our issues.

Not spinning anything mate.

I Just think Osula is entitled to start games up top over a winger.

I wouldn't have against Villa nor the majority of games but possibly would on Monday. Fwiw for us so far hes been more of a winger than a through the middle forward.

That's what I mean by NUFC not having the financial freedom.

We can't compete to sign the starlets because the cartel clubs can outspend us. So we get outplayed on money and / or club stature.

To get over the stature issue we'd need to outspend the cartel clubs, but we'd fuck ourselves on PSR

If we sign older players that are less likely to be of interest to the cartel clubs, we'll fuck ourselves on PSR

I actually think we may be done.

If Isak stays then its entirely possible an additional striker wont work out. We wont keep Isak and sign Wissa for 60m. That would take our spend to 200m.
