NUFC Transfer Rumours

Do you think if we continue to get knocked back on JSL and Wissa, we would take a punt on a young or uncoming striker from abroad as a bit of a risk signing?

Part of me is hoping that there are players out there that we are interested in that haven't been mentioned, maybe because they aren't proven, but have bags of potential. OR is that me living in cloud cuckoo land and hopefully trying to unearth an absolute gem.

Surely we have to take a punt and very soon. Openda next to turn us down? It's very tiresome.

I don't think we'll get anyone through the door. We've left it far too late.

This is a mess years in the making. We could have had Ekitike at 14m two seasons ago. We could have had Strand Larsen last season. Wilson has been on the decline for years.

Now we've been forced to try and sign PL proven strikers and we can't do that, even at inflated prices because teams aren't looking to sell.

This is what I mean, surely there aren't many cards left to play and there is absolutely no way we can go into the season after the transfer window ends, with the likelihood of a sustained period of either:

Osula upfront
A sulky Isak upfront
Gordon upfront.

It would literally define our season before it really got going. We cannot take that gamble.

If we want someone we’ll have to overpay. If we don’t and we go into the season with Osula/Gordon as our only willing strikers then we may as well write this season off and we’re in the shit again next season with the likes of Tonali having just 2 years left on his contract next summer.

I’ll always cut the club slack as they’ve bought a club to get a seat at the poker table but due to neglect we’ve had no chips to play in the game of PSR Poker with no players to trade.

If I take you back to my thoughts on the Barnes transfer I said at the time that seemed an indulgence to Howe. Which after saving us and getting us a cup final and UCL within two seasons I’m not going to criticise the club doing their best for the manager. I never will.

However after just signing Gordon in the same position (I still argue they had him down as a right winger on the documentary?!) with such limited PSR headroom it made no sense with regards to a strategic squad rebuild IMO.

However football is never straightforward. Sometimes opportunity knocks to get a player a year in advance due to circumstances (Leicester’s relegation on this occasion) and as we’ve seen no one is bending over to sell us players so when one is available you grab them.

However that £35m at that time would’ve probably been spent on the Wilson upgrade to bed in.

Meanwhile I’m quite excited to see Osula get some proper game time next 3 games.

At the time we signed Gordon he'd played almost as much on the right, we also gave him his debut there and when Barnes signed Gordon hadn't pulled up any trees for us. Gordon didn't really get going until Barnes got injured.

So you are in agreement the original plan was RW mainly for Gordon?

Clearly the club just never rated Jackson. Chelsea was hawking him aggressively to us and Jackson seemed very keen. We weren't interested at any price.

Nkuku away to AC Milan, he could have been an option.

We are very much in the world of:

- Issuing a large performance based bonus to any agent who can broker a viable striker deal before the window closes.

- Offering a loan swap using either Isak or Osula

- throw the kitchen sink at January 1st

So Jackson or Wissa ?

I'd rather have Wissa. It comes down to which clubs are actually willing to do business with us at this late, late fucking hour. Chelsea don't give a fuck since they have 3 billion other players. Unless we're signing Vardy on free... It almost seems like a "Jackson or no-one" scenario 🤷‍♂️

I've made peace with it being Vardy on a free like
