Think he needs a week off but we've nobody to rest him for.

Has he played every game since he came back from his 2 months out?

Yeah think he has tbh. Possibly only been subbed off the once or twice? Could be misremembering. Just so shit that our back up (Trippier) is injured so we can't even rotate properly for the cup game midweek

He looked very disappointed when he came off, however he did walk with the team to applaud the fans at full time so hopefully it's nothing too serious.

He was having one of his worst games pre-injury too.

He's been poor for a while but is obviously shattered.

It won’t be serious as in major, but at this stage of season, something that requires 6 weeks rest which is possible for any small knee injury and that’s 12 games missed, where we already have no depth.

Miley will be getting a long run at RB.

The only hope and best case scenario is that he felt something twinge and because it is in his knee that has been operated on. It feels worse than it is because of all the scar tissue and because of the mental side of things. Then he has come off as a precaution. The heavy strapping and ice is a bit of a worry, mind. But they’ve let him walk off and then do the lap of honour (to an empty stadium)

Happened a fair bit to myself and others. I know you fear the worst and then it isn’t actually much of an injury at all. Of course their bodies are under far more stress for longer and at higher impacts, speed etc. And they will have to be more careful with how quickly they return.

It’s a bad situation that we’ve got ourselves in. Two top level young full backs, who both have a history of injuries. Are having to play basically every minute of every game.

I know the squad had loads of gaps and weaknesses and we were never going to plug them all. But it’s cost us twice already in half a season.

A lot of us were screaming about bringing in say  KWP who could provide cover on both sides. Obviously he's nothing incredible but he could have done a job for us.

We’ve been averse to cheap players coming in to do a solid job.  Which is weird because that’s what Dan Burn was and Matt Targett on loan.  One or two year deals. A proper pro. Basically like better versions of Krafth or Lascelles

Still reeling we didn't even bother trying to Kamara when he went on a free from Marseille. I know he's on a canny wedge at that time would have likely been our highest paid player but the cost is recouped through resale value and lack of transfer fee.

Now don't get me wrong I understand we had too much to do last summer, having 3 windows or no ins was massively damaging and led to a massive compression.

Kamara is a different situation though.  And due to high wages - he doesn’t have great resale value either. Same with Tielemans. Which can be fine depending on the player. I’m happy for Bruno to be on top wedge with few options to go if he wants to move. Because I want to keep him until it’s Saudi time well into his 30’s.  Where Joelinton’s superman contract is more of a problem.

Your KWPs or Ross Barkley’s or Norgarrd’s aren’t on super high wages like a Kamara but a fair wedge. These are the backups or squad players needee to maintain a proper European challenge.

but positively I think it’s to the advantage of Miley’s development. I thought to finish 5th we wouldn’t be able to give Miley enough minutes to really push on. But as the squad is as weak as it is, we won’t finish 5th or 6th tbh but Miley will get quality minutes.   He’s able to show his class on the ball at fullback too.  Defensively he’s ok too.

Couple of decent ball winning tackles too. At worst further honing his midfield skills.

I get the point but KWP looked done last season and I’ve not seen anything to convince me otherwise this season.

A player of that mould is what we should be looking for in January though. A Manquillo upgrade.

Also, would be quite happy to see Miley get some more game time at full back I think?

It helps us in possession quite a lot because he’s very reliable, extra height at set pieces, and if he can add that versatility to his game long term it’s a big bonus.

Defensively a bit sus but he has Thiaw next to him who covers a lot of space (like Konate and Matip have done for TAA in the past).

Problem with Miley being your back up right back is your even more committed to absolutely flog Sandro and Bruno plan. It's tricky our squad isn't particularly well balanced.

It's fine/great for Miley but not for any ambitions for big European football. But that's a squad weakness. We have 3 "proper" CMs and Miley is one of them. If Miley is at FB we will often play with 2 of Joelinton, Willock and Ramsey. It's not good enough atm.
