23 goals in all competitions from 44 starts & 48 sub apps. He's dug us out of mires when he's started games, when he's came off the bench to rescue games. He's just cracked on and hasn't made a fuss. Been worth far more than the £35m we spent on him.

What do we reckon was better in terms of pure vibes, his winner tonight, or his winner against West Ham a few seasons back?

I was in the stands for WHam so biased. I didn't get to hug an old Geordie this time so it loses a few points, but it's close like

Love him, such a modest and unassuming lad but when given the chance has catapulted us to some crazy wins and scored some iconic goals. Would never sell tbh, too important.

Oh go on then. I’ll mention it again. When I briefly met him. He was so unlike a footballer, or at least the ones that are portrayed in the media.  It was a head fuck.

Proper sound and seemed genuinely engaged and interested with my slightly drunken waffling.

I liked him before and thought he got a raw deal. But it’s definitely made me more biased towards him than before

Botman runs and jumps on Barnes' back in celebration of the winner, Botman is about 16ft, Barnes doesn't even flinch.

Conclusion: Barnes is fuckin solid and class

I don’t think we’ve got enough goals in the team to not have Barnes playing. Whether it’s RW or rotating Gordon more he kind of has to he in the starting 11. I’m not sure any of our other players (maybe Wissa) has that selfish goal scorer instinct to try and shoot for the winner.

I don’t think he’s grasped his chances up to now and made it easy for Howe to drop him at times but surely not any longer.

I have to disagree there , last season when Gordon got sent off barnes came in and really stepped up to the plate , including played well in the final which we won. Again this season Gordon another stupid red , barnes came in again scored important goals for us, even got player of the month  , for Gordon then comes straight back in and barnes is pushed to the right wing and then dropped the game after. His attitude is brilliant , never complains.
Eddie’s comments this week says it all…. Gordon doesn’t like to play right wing while barnes doesn’t mind.

It’s such a good finish for the winner like.

He had just had a moment on the edge of the box thirty seconds before where he just couldn’t sort his feet out to get a shot away, ball comes back in and it’s so congested in there and he is facing his own goal before managing to swivel and get a shot away with enough power on it to get past the keeper.

What a moment for him, fully deserved especially in light of Eddie’s comments about the whole willingness to play on the right thing.

I think he’s missed a lot of chances in the games he’s played this season and we’ve gone on to either lose or draw. It’s just made it easy for Howe to drop him whereas if he’d converted a few more of his chances (chances some on here would have had an aneurysm over if it was Gordon) he wouldn’t have given Howe the chance to.

I cant really think of many chances he has missed especially when he starts games to be honest. When he gets a run of games he never disappoints. Im not going down that Gordon rabbit hole who has done nothing but disappoint.

He has a strikers instinct. He said in the interview ‘swivel and shoot’ sounds so basic but that’s exactly what was needed. Swivel. Hit it low. And hard. And as far into the corner (and on target) as you can in as smooth a movement as you can. It wasn’t right in the corner but the execution was good enough.

He’s one of few players that can do that. Might actually be the only one. Yet to see Wissa have that composure to execute something in a moment like that.

Dont get the missed chances angle. Top strikers miss the most chances in terms of volume but they also score the most. The difference between a 20 goal striker and a 10 goal striker isn’t that they both have 50 chances  and one scored 20 ans the other scores 10.  It’s that 1 gets 95 chances and scores 20 and the other can only get 50 chances and scores 10.
