We won the ball and forced errors high up a lot. This is the right sort of team to press very aggressively as they are not great passing out from the back. I was expecting Sheffield as a newly promoted side to put in a spirited performance, but they lost heart completely. You can’t win 8-0 without playing well, surely? We were magnificent. Tightish until we scored and then we pummelled them.
Conjo
Great run by Dan Burn to take a defender out for Gordons fantastic goal.
Kid Icarus
Newcastle United and taking out their early season frustrations on the city of Sheffield with 8-0 thrashings. Name a better duo. Crazy but thoroughly enjoyable game. Totally ruthless and Sheff United barely played like a competitive Championship team, to be brutally honest. It felt like our 7th and 8th came when we'd actually stopped proactively trying to score all that much. Pope: 7 Trippier: 10 Schar: 8.5 Botman: 9 Burn: 9 Bruno: 8.5 Anderson: 8.5 Longstaff: 8.5 Almiron: 8 Wilson: 8 Gordon: 10 Probably some harsh marks there, but unless I gave Trippier and Gordon 11s or 12s the scale would have been out. Made it difficult for them to play and then also passed around them too. Class performance. Scoring 8 and not conceding in anyone's stadium is nuts.
