Two big takeaways. - This forums opinions of Tonali’s performance is weird. He was sub standard first half, but second half he was involved in everything good we did. - What is Jack Grealish? Seriously… every single time I watch him play I’m just more and more baffled about what people see in him. Gets the ball, dribbles a bit, cuts inside, passes it to a CM. Repeat. Just a nothing player. All of his good, exciting qualities, gone ?♂️ Grealish is doing what Pep tells him to do. He comes across as the sort of player who'd thrive under a "ah dernt do tactics" type where he's allowed to lose the ball once or twice as long as he's trying to skin the fullback. Great player with excellent control of the football at all times, I just wish he wouldn't look for the foul every time.

Beren
I have to say, I thought success against Man City playing that way is very much contingent on having a strong referee who doesn't give a free kick for every bit of contact.

Doctor Zaius
Wish refs would pull up their tactical fouling more. Its a big part of their game plan. They dominate the ball, then as soon as you win it back and look to break, there's a foul. They're able to regroup from the free kick and possession is up for grabs again, which they win and you're back on the merry go round. Winning a free kick in your own half allows them to get back into position and provides us with absolutely no advantage in comparison to the position you were in. Its never punished with more than a free kick which serves them and not us. Grealish got away with two and never came close to a booking. Persistent fouling should be totted up against the team as opposed to the player.
Ikon
We make a hell of a lot of fouls too. Often unpunished.
James
When I saw the teams last night I did lose all hope, but it really shines through that Howe and the coaching staff work on the whole squad regardless of whether it is the star player or the 25th man. put it to context, the only other manager who was able to dig deep into the back end of the squad and get the required performance was Sir Bobby. We were all rightly concerned about the depth at centre-back but if that was anything to go by then there's no need for significant concern this season. We know Lascelles is capable but the lesser-spotted Dummett was an unknown quantity and in nobody's second teams at the beginning of the season. The lad is an absolute pro and suddenly it's as clear as day why Howe wanted him kept around.
Mazzy
Not just keep a clean sheet either but that back 4 limited that City team to just 2 shots on target and an XG of 0.58. That would be impressive for any team to do this season.

The other time was the Brentford match before the CL final when they’d already won the title and rested even more players than tonight. Dummetts interview on .co.uk was good talking about how they’ve played that back four quite a lot in training so it wasn’t totally alien to them. r0cafella
Managed to watch this before work this morning, a very proud performance. The team spirit we have is on another level everyone is involved and pushing no matter how many starts they get. We’ve been shafted by the draw again but let’s see how we get on. Had a feeling when lineup was released this was EH’s thinking and might be more so going forward. In a way it avoids his dislike of rotating his back four. Have two fixed sets of four. Erikse
I just checked, and 7 of Man Citys starters had started a PL game for them this season. Only 4 of our starters had. The game really changed after some subs, but honestly even the first half performance was fine considering how we lined up.
Smal
Lascelles had 88% pass completion and Dummmett 91%!

Shadow Puppets
The first half was fine considering our line up. Slightly frustrating we couldn't do more with the ball, but we contained them and limited them to mainly sideways passing. Apart from one good chance I don't remember feeling overly worried we would concede. Second half we were tremendous.
