Controversial, but I’m liking the new hair on Gordon. Love a floppy-haired winger.

Vast improvement on last season’s abomination. His form will improve considerably.

Some promising signs there: lovely touches, nice passing movements, good link-up play, decent with his left.

Despite the fact it didn't always come off, it was encouraging to see how he seamlessly looked like a Newcastle player, both in the positions he was taking up and the attempted exchanges with Tonali in that inside right channel. It doesn't appear like he will require much moulding or much change in our overall patterns of play, he fits in very well.

I get the feeling he's the kind of lad who will be trying to soak up as much of Howe's instructions and tactics as quickly as he can.  I think he'll adapt to our patterns of play pretty sharpish.

Some sloppiness/rustiness on show, which is to be expected.  But there was plenty to like about that.

Very two footed as we already knew, but seemed even more noticeable.  Some crisp touches and lay offs, put a lovely cross in that Osula really should have been attacking with more conviction.  Looked for the give and go often and was regularly in behind but we were usually too slow with the pass back to him.

He didn't seem quite as fast as usual, but it's his first 45 in pre-season.

100% m8 he will be up to speed and understanding team mates come August kick off 👍
