So wrong.

Its exactly what's happened with Wissa. Hence why I said it in the Wissa thread.

But you’ve no idea if we’re going to sign him or not [emoji38] just absolute drivel

Its a decent assumption considering Brentford have apparently blocked his transfer and hes back in training with them. Not to mention the £60 million they apparently want for him to even consider selling him.

Unless he signs, to me we've wasted a full summer chasing him.

I've been trying to give our transfer business the benefit of the doubt but Wissa seems to have been a total cock up. We clearly should have gone for Wissa early as we had money and we knew Wilson needed replacing.  This would have had the added benefit for forcing up the price of Mbuemo for Scum United. Instead we seem to have not really had a clear idea of who we wanted to sign in the striker department.

We did go for Wissa early, this has been dragging on for over a month now. Pretty sure we were told he wasn't for sale then as well. We seemed to think we would get it done, turns out that we have misjudged it badly. Hence starting the season with Gordon up front.

Maybe my memory is playing me foul but I don't think we went for him until after Mbuemo was sold. Brentford were willing to let one go not both, I think we wasted time going for Mbuemo who it turns out was never going to come here if someone from the Superleague came in for him.

Actually this thread backs that up. Created on July 17th when Mbuemo was all but done to Man U.

I think at the time we were probably looking at Pedro, Delap, Ekitike Sesko etc

We probably didn't expect Isak.to.do.this either.

It looks like we settled on Wissa as a Wilson replacement in mid-July and in that time we haven’t pursued an alternative, we’ve just sat waiting for Brentford to change their stance. Now we’re in late August and there’s fuck all available.

My suspicion is his agent has led us by the nose, we’ve swallowed a story about Brentford agreeing to sell him and ignored what the club are actually saying.

That’s the story of the transfer window, us being played by agents. Sesko was an obvious one, he was never going to sign for us but our interest was a useful tool.

Must be catching. Isak's agent to Liverpool.

I agree re: Isak, that's kind of my point though. We knew Wilson was leaving l, not Isak, and Wissa is a really great upgrade on him who if we went early enough was attainable. But the thinking was muddled, you could be kind by saying overly ambitious, and time was wasted pursuing those players.  You might say hindsight in 20-20 but here I feel the strategy was wrong and it could well cost us.

Yeah I reckon if we were going for João Pedro and Delap now, with the Isak situation being what it is we might have had a different outcome with one of them. Most likely Delap. I think Delap would have thought no chance of getting ahead of Isak. Though he's 2nd choice anyway.
