"And here is a new name I can bring you. Myself and my Mail Sport colleague Simon Jones are working around the clock on transfers (quite literally given the time difference) and we understand Newcastle have made an informal enquiry for Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz. No high-level talks have taken place, but intermediaries have been involved in discussions and a fee of £40million mooted.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are continuing to pursue deals for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. However, the feeling inside the club is that Sesko is likely to go to Manchester United, which would be a huge frustration given they are so keen on the Slovenian.

That, though, could potentially pave the way for a move for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who is on Newcastle’s shortlist. So is Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, but several others are ahead of him at present."

Dusting off the drum here for another session, but once again PSR proving it's a handbrake for clubs. In the same week Chelsea sell a player to themselves for 7m, we can't compete with Manchester United to replace the star player that Liverpool are buying for a British record sum.

Yet the likes of Chelsea and Man City would never have this problem. They'd have gone out and bought 4-5 players to sit next to them. If PSR was around back then, would Frank Lampard have stayed at Chelsea for his whole career pretty much? What about Sergio Aguero? Mental.

Isak just has to stay now. No fucking about.

As bad as we’re run at the moment, I can’t believe we’re going to sell him if we don’t get 2 strikers in. One should be as near to world class as possible and the other proven in the PL.

Apologies for the moan, but we can’t seriously be considering Fulham’s back up striker as an Isak replacement?

I really naively thought Man U were done as a force for the foreseeable future after last seasons shit show. But there’s still a limitless supply of greedy, myopic players who can’t wait to be next in line to ruin their careers.

meanwhile we can’t afford even one dud singing.

Yeah same, thought it would take them a few more years to sort it. TBH apart from the forward line they still have major problems, so it might not be easy for them still.

Man City definitely needed to throw money at players to get themselves into the elite category, and Chelsea would have needed to pay higher than the big boys of that era as well to persuade top players to go there. Otherwise they would have preferred Liverpool and Man U as well.

 I mean I agree it'd be a bad investment, but the manager in control of transfers dig is just a bit silly.

Full control absolutely not. It’s the reasons all the top clubs have a DOF.

Watkins would not be a wise investment for the money he’d cost. In fact it would be reckless and more evidence why the manager shouldn’t be in control of transfers.

I mean, he would be about the 8th choice

I don't think players are choosing Liverpool and Man U over us because of no DOF like.
