Man City definitely needed to throw money at players to get themselves into the elite category, and Chelsea would have needed to pay higher than the big boys of that era as well to persuade top players to go there. Otherwise they would have preferred Liverpool and Man U as well.

It's just ridiculous. It keeps the club at a pointless crossroads where you either over reach on mediocrity in the hope it gets you there, or keep trying to find gems you know the top clubs will poach (if you can even get them).

I can't believe we had to justify Saint-Maximin's fee and meanwhile Chelsea are shipping players to Strasbourg like it's a boarding school.

I don't think players are choosing Liverpool and Man U over us because of no DOF like.

How do we know that? We haven’t got anyone on the books with a history of transfer negotiations.

I’d imagine modern day deals are complex and reliant on relationships built with agents.

We have Steve Nickson and Andy Howe spearheading our negotiations, last time I checked neither had much if any background in this.

As I thought. The owners at Man U are overruling Amorin's judgement and sending their own delegation instead. Can't say I blame them, Watkins is a good player but in their position they can't afford players with no resale value.

I really naively thought Man U were done as a force for the foreseeable future after last seasons shit show. But there’s still a limitless supply of greedy, myopic players who can’t wait to be next in line to ruin their careers.

meanwhile we can’t afford even one dud singing.

They’re one of the world’s biggest football clubs, they’re going nowhere.  It’s why I couldn’t understand folks wanting Spurs to beat them last season - Man Utd could finish 17th several years in a row and players would likely choose them over us.

Let’s just get out of the race now please. He’s over-rated and I’ve said so from the start. The fact that he wants Man U over us is a major warning flag about his mentality and desire for his career

I've said from day one that some clubs have extra appeal because historically they have won stuff. Just like we think of Real Madrid and Barcelona above Celta Vigo, foreign players obviously recognise Man U and Liverpool above us.

Man Utd are having a decent summer and probably no less likely than ourselves to get 5th place next season. Man U have prestige and a hefty salary on offer, so not that much of a shock.

They’ve been a fucking shambles for a decade, culminating in their worst season in 40 years or whatever. Two or three signings in a window doesn’t change the fact they’re a total mess

Buying good players does tend to help mind.
