They're as annoying as the posts telling people to only judge things once the window closes, I agree.

You don’t need to wait for the window to open to negotiate, and you don’t need to submit one bid at a time.  The same narrative has surrounded our transfer attempts all summer - it is absolutely ridiculous.

 

In terms of shitter players - what the fuck has our scouting team been doing for the last few years?  The players targeted (Pedro, Ekitike, Sesko, Trafford etc) have been linked for YEARS at this point.  There’s no-one else out there?  I don’t buy it.  Other clubs seem to manage to find players.  

 

Other clubs find players by shopping in different markets to the cartel clubs. That was what I thought Mitchell had been brought in for. With him and Eales gone, we are left with Howe's team identifying players I presume, and they are finding out that these are deep waters with plenty of sharks prowling. 

 

I don't know who's leading the recruitment at the club but we are going to need to be more inventive. Or failing that at least not lose the players we've got.

Hard not to judge a window now when the brief was: act fast, get our main targets

 

It doesn't need to be 1st September to know that we've already failed the brief and whatever we do now is late and contingency, regardless of whether it all works out in the end.

Mitchell would appear to be the scape goat on here but the bloke did want us to be tapping markets other than the PL. The reason the transfer window is a shambles is because the "transfer committee" only want PL ready players despite the other way working quite well

I mean you literally can't make a judgement on the transfer window until it closes (at the earliest!) It's like (to continue the metaphor) saying "what a terrible defeat this is!" when it's 30 minutes in.

Yep, and tbf, he might have been doing a shit job, depending on what you believe. But what is clear is that we are in above our heads with our current transfer plans. They just aren't realistic and hence we are failing time and time again. But I maintain, as long as we don't let Isak go without getting a suitable replacement, we can still come out of this ok.

Totally agree and at this point does anyone have any confidence it’ll work out in the end. I’m guessing we’ll get bodies in but not the quality to get top 5

Fair enough. Having a wise bit time off here at moment but from flicking through a few pages of threads I still feel many seem to set themselves up for disappointment when competing against cartel clubs. We’ve no chance. No harm throwing hat in the ring but seemed clear when it drifted a couple of days we’d walked away knowing what was coming.

 

On the bright side that would seem like they have all filled their positions that we are looking at so we might now start seeing some easier recruitment… unless they are after a RCB, midfielder and more forwards 

 

Still feel Isak remains for 12 months but its going to rumble ALL window that one. Can’t see him playing against us at SJP this season. We’ll see though…

Life doesn’t always go to plan, shit happens. The future of the club doesn’t depend on this window, if we can finish it strong then we’ll be in a good position. If not, it’s going to be a tough season, we’ll all still be here whatever happens.

I think that was the case even before Ekitike and I dont think the transfer window has to be a disaster just because, quite a few, targets have gone elsewhere.

 

My biggest gripe is simple, regardless of the forwards situation and our struggles to get anyone in up front, where is the CB or CM? 

 

I dont see any reason why those positions aren't done. 

 

If the forward situation was our only issue, id be tempted to give them a pass but not signing a CB and some cover in midfield would be criminal.
