There's better than Ramsey for similar money in different leagues. If we were going to target Villa, its Rogers we need. Spending a huge amount on Ramsey is mental. Jordan Ibe kind of signing. At this stage I'm hoping we spend none of whatever money we have until we get a competent upstairs group. Which won't happen anytime soon, but whats another 5 years in the grand scheme of things.

What money are we talking?

It seems an odd decision to choose to go for a player whose career you’ll basically have to turn around, rather than go for someone that’s on the up like El Khannouss or Taylor. The price will probably be the around the same (30m or so I’m assuming), but with Ramsay you’ll need to turn his form around and watch his fitness like a hawk.

Can't believe people are mentioning Jordan Ibe still. Guess it's the only bad signing Howe has ever made so they need to get maximum mileage out of it

I still believe that Jordan Ibe had so much talent, just the mental side completely impacted his career

there isn’t a midfielder within our reach who gets in our eleven though. We’ve arguably got the best 3 in the league.

anyone who comes in is coming as a rotation/backup option.

I’m not sure about that but if it is the case then we should be looking at a project player with a high ceiling to develop alongside what we currently have.

He also spent the majority of time playing on the wing last season, with some pretty terrible stats, so ye might not be coming in to the centre.

Talking about Jordan Ibe. Swedish newspaper reported about a week ago his signed for a team in the swedish 3rd tier. 😄

His profile is essentially Willock. Squad player LM/LW. Almost certainly higher ceiling than post-injury Willock. Ramsey would be fine as a squad player.

He's not as defensively strong as Joelinton and doesn't seem to be a big door-opener. I'd personally prefer a more 10ish 8. I see Tonali as an 8ish 6, Bruno as a 6ish 8 (both pretty rounded CMs) and Joelinton as a mega disruptive 8 without 6 discipline.

I suppose Ramsey would also create an opportunity to cash in on Barnes or Gordon, if there is a desire to do so. I really like HB, but if the Mitchell stuff is to be believed, turning Harvey into $$$ while we can may be a necessary PSR play. The ol' "held onto him too long" we heard about Wilson etc.

He’s better than Willock for sure. Way more between the ears for one.

Injuries are a bit of a concern but given a run of games and some choice Howe coaching, I don’t see why he can’t be as good someone like Rogers.

He's not got Rodgers strength and power. His attributes are based on his speed which is a risk given his hamstrings seem to be made of paper.

I bloody hope we're not considering Ramsey as a replacement for Gordon or Barnes. He's less effective than both.

Too right!

I only mentioned it because PSR says we have to be essentially perfect in the transfer market until we build a stadium full of corporate boxes and named after a hedge fund, and we get x millions overseas buying our shirts and clicking our socials. This places crossfires on every player whose value may be diminishing.

No chance we can sell a big player this window. The optics alone would be appalling with the Isak thing going on.

Ornstein's fallen off so badly I actually don't really believe this over John Percy now. Unless we're after both.

Ornstein stated to someone i know well recently that he only ever posts truths, id trust him more than anyone else tbh

Ornstein is so clearly the Kuenssberg of football these days that I don’t think anything he puts out is worthy of a thread.

Mental man isn’t it?

It is if you make the assumption that markets always stay the same, which they don't. Our profile and position is different, the market dynamics are different, the pool of players is different. Nickson could have found his sweet spot in bringing lesser-coveted players to a new project under Staveley, but in this current market and with the project (always hesitant to use that word) maturing and changing, and us playing at the top table, he could be struggling. Most people have a sweetspot where their capabilities match the situation, but if you don't adapt when things change, you can quickly find yourself obsolete/out of your depth. Whether that's true here we don't know but the signs point to someone or multiple people not being able to operate effectively at this level.

Not more than John Percy I don't think. It's more what he posts now rather than whether it's truthful or not now. He used to be a very concrete 'deal done' person. These days he posts everything from options, interest and talks, all the way down to his own opinion and a couple of days ago credited IndyKhalia.
