Yea, but when you don't have a 20 goals-a-season striker, you need to have many players to pop up with few goals. If you have 3 CMs who open up defence but no one supports the striker to offer threat, it's no use. Even Longstaff scored few.

He is a strong runner with the ball but needs to be braver when against low block. Either try to beat your man or play combinations. Now it seems he plays the simple pass quite often. And he is quite one-footed.

And yes. we need players who can pass better and receive the ball between the lines on the half turn. Bruno can, but he usually is the player playing the first pass and we need others. Woltemade can, but he is not learnt the tempo yet, takes too much time with the ball.

He has attributes to be success here though.

That's what Wissa and Wolte are for. We've paid the big money for them. The system is designed for the striker to score lots of goals.

I don't agree that he's been lumped in with Elanga personally, in that case surely Wissa would be in the same boat too?

I'd like to think most people are judging him on what he's done in his career as a whole, what we need in our midfield, and what he's done on the pitch for us in his 13 appearances so far.

Last night was the first performance where he hasn't been largely anonymous. It was a foundation for him to build on, but personally I'd still need to see a lot more from him to convince me he isn't just neat and tidy and not much else, which is the impression I largely got from him at Villa.

Nah, we literally hadn't seen Wissa until about a week ago. Calling him out for poor performances would have been mental, even by this places standards.

Much improved last night and more involved, certainly his best outing for us.

Kinda felt that Elanga was put on the main stage on the weekend and we know how that ended, last night was Jacobs chance. QF cup game, let's see what you can do. I think he passed the test which should be great for his confidence.

Not sure I am? My original point was that there has been cases of people framing their judgement of Ramsey through an 'Elanga and Ramsey, what a collective waste of money' lens when, really, only one of those two players (might be) deserving of the label.

For the record I'd judge them all individually. Elanga has been very disappointing on the whole but Ramsey has shown promise. The jury is still out on both of them though, Wissa too (though I've always been convinced he'd be a good signing).

The only reason they get lumped together is because they are both new, and neither has set the world on fire. But ultimately they deserve to be judged on what they produce in their own right.

I'm still not convinced Ramsey is what we need, but he needs more full games like yesterday to give him a chance to get up to speed.

Is it just me or does he run in straight lines when carrying the ball? Probably not explaining myself very well.

Like an old video game with a 8 position joystick 🕹️ 🤣

Once he sets off with ball he seems to just keep going in that direction. No switch of movement etc.

Isak costed £125m and on current form he’d get picked last when they’re choosing teams for the lunchtime game of football in the school yard at West Jesmond Primary

That was me in 1978. And I'm sure we had make our own  footballs out of loads if socks because we weren't allowed real ones. Middle class softies.

He was better, but when he signed I thought he was someone who took players on but everytime he's played for us he just seems to get it and pass it on straight away.

Hopefully that will come with more confidence.

We (Simonside middle) actually played West Jesmond in 1978 in the City Cup, beat them 6-0 at ours.

For some reason I remember our first few games. Cowgate 8-1, West Jesmond 6-0, Chapel Park 2-1.

It was the same with Anderson when he played for us too, now he takes players on for Forest. Maybe it’s instructions from Howe..

I'll admit I never paid much attention to him at Villa. Did he seem much better there? Seems he mainly played out wide for them too.

He was good in 22/23 (mainly playing from the left as you say), then very stop-start from then onwards. Don't think Emery ever really fancied him.

Haven’t checked appearances and contributions etc, but get the sense that Morgan Rogers started to outperform him. Seemed like the must keep of the two of them.

We’re a really boring side and Howe is out of ideas.

Shame as he’s been the best manager in my lifetime, but this is a malaise that’s setting in and feels it needs a fresh voice, rather than another £150m on Elanga / Ramsey etc.

Osula a matter of time to be gone for same. Valid argument Elanga could be same if he doesn’t start to show something soon. Ramsey non-existent.

It's just unfortunate for Howe that the signing of elanga and Ramsey is proving to be disastrous and might have very well cost his job if it comes to that.

Not really sure what your point is here. Criticising them both as our least effective signings isn't the same as saying Ramsey is being lumped in to the criticism "by association with Elanga" IMO.

Most people are judging Ramsey on his own merit. He's made 13 appearances and not done very much, to the extent where I was surprised he'd been on the pitch that many times. This was a common criticism of him at Villa.

Thats what it seemed like to me, Ramsey looked exciting (if you're Villa or England), but it never became something consistent. Then Rogers came, immediately took his position and decided games. But that's the rub, Rogers cost around 10-15 million. Considering how poor our U-21's and reserves are, if CIty are off-loading to Middlesboro for 1mil, don't know why we aren't in there, especially looking at Rogers raw attributes and mentality. He wouldn't have been too far off replacing Longstaff, stepping in for Willock, Joelinton. We don't take enough risks or look far forward enough in our transfer policy.

I think it's just we expected a more immediate impact rather than he's been 'bad' TBH.

He's been fine, he just hasn't played to his full capacity or managed to impact games as much as he would've liked.

You can see he has a lot of good attributes IMO, he'll be a good signing.
