oldtype
A lot of functional speed depends on acceleration not top speed imo. A lot of big men have good top speed because they have long strides, but it takes them time to get there (young Andy Carroll was like this back in the day) Edited August 29, 2025 by oldtype
Matt1892
I would be surprised if Strand Larsen has a quicker top speed than Isak, he is a unit when he gets going though.

Checko
4-4-2 - one striker drops deeper to receive the ball, one stays up top - you've got a 4-2-3-

Kaizero
28 minutes ago, janpawel said: Thought Isak would have a higher speed than that, he seems rapid when he gets going I think most top attacking players are averaging in the 31km/h to 34km/h area, which are all speeds where the actual difference will be wholly negligible for the average viewer unless they're already near top speed as they face down a slower opponent. Them doing that is probably also one of the few times their actual top speed matters in a game situation as what you really want isn't "fastest player", but "player accelerating fastest", as it's not their "top speed" that matters (beyond box-to-box races between attacking and defensive players when one team chases a breakaway counter after, for example, an opponent corner kick gone wrong). Beyond wingers vs wing/fullbacks, you won't see many one-on-one races during a match. You will see tons of opportunities for strikers to accelerate past defenders, though. Most of the time strikers are at least going to be. Also speed with the ball is critical as well. Elanga can do the hundred metres in 10.93 seconds.
