If the client would prefer to go to Liverpool and the agent is not making an effort to make that happen because we're paying him a higher agent fee then the agent is breaching his fiduciary duties and should be sacked.

The release clause doesn't force the player to leave. It forces the selling club to let the player leave if he wants to.

The player had by all accounts agreed - it was pissing about with the fee which was causing the delay.  This is a competence issue.

If Liverpool has interest and the agent conceals it from his client because he wants us to sign with the only accepted bid currently on the table, he is breaching his fiduciary duties and should be sacked.

 

People really need to get it into their heads that the agent is just a vehicle for executing on the player's own interests.

We don't know that - what we do know is we didn't activate the clause - Liverpool did and have got the player.  If he was our No.1 target to replace Gordon just pay the fucking release clause.  If Liverpool then come in - then so be it.  But atm it's looking like we weren't willing to pay it and Liverpool were.

That may be the case but at least it ends things quickly rather than weeks of back and forth discussions or just maybe it forces the players hand and he makes the choice to sign rather than wait and see if something better comes along and risks losing the deal he has (nothing like a bit of jeopardy).

Not at this early stage of the season. Zero need for him to decide days ago and every reason to wait. And it paid off

Top players have tonnes of clubs who might, theoretically, be interested in them. If the selling club has accepted a bid from NUFC and we have properly incentivised the agent then the deal has a much greater likelihood of getting done without being leaked to stoke more interest. That’s the point. 
 

Tonali to Spurs is another example of an Agent leaking the deal to generate more interest in his client.
