  1. Nearly... NR do borrow from banks as well as financial markets, they just use the financial markets more than most. Banks are refusing to wholesale lend with eachother at the moment and LIBOR is higher than the BoE lending rate, hence the reason NR went to the BoE. The BoE would not have lent the money to NR if they felt that either (a) the problems were of NR's own making, or (b) the current situation was not temporary and indicated a long term issue. Whoever leaked this info, nd whichever editor felt it was in the public interest to publish it deserve shooting tbh.
  2. We literally got nothing for £10m and probably £5-7m in wages. Just £15 or more chucked out the window. Hardly expensive then really, can't even get a DVD for that
  3. Well technically the Bolton game was the start of it if it happened
  4. Argghh I hate people. This is what causes bank failures. The initial 'problem' was under control. Everyone takes money out of NR, NR don't have the cash to repay them and have to call in their own loans from other banks, problems at other banks. People withdraw savings. etc etc
  5. ridiculous says it all, to be a good defender you have to be running around like Steven Taylor on ecstacy or flying in with challanges left, right and centre Ferdinand doesn't have to do this because he's one step ahead of the attacker, Ferguson's no mug, there's a reason he paid £30m for him He hasn't really improved since then though has he? Not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm reminded of a comparison with Woody when we signed him... Woody will play each and every minute of the game as an 8/9 out of 10 player and rarely will you notice him try anything clever Rio plays like a 9/10 out of 10 player for 85 minutes then try to be clever and cock up
  6. We aint overly worried at PwC, and a lot of our clients where I work have Northern rock loans etc
  7. Oba now Past names on shirts reflecting favourites Gillespie (94-95) Elliott (95-96) Pav (numerous) - probably my favourite since I started supporting the Toon, actually didn't like Given to begin with because he replaced Pav! Maric (98-99) :-[ mackems.gif :giggle: Dabizas (00-01) As you can see never really went with the obvious ones........
  8. So when do we get to boo Bentley again?
  9. I've got Martin Tyler and a surprisingly articulate and knowledgable David Platt!
  10. Pav in the Metro Centre (on his first spell here) My God he is massive in the flesh!
  11. It would be bloody impossible to police, but if they would have a large screen showing re-runs of entertaining games (maybe not exclusively Toon ones either) and allow you to sup a pint in your seat until say 2:00 then I'm sure a few more people would have their final pint or 2 at SJP rather than a local boozer. Don't agree with the counter thing btw, people should be away from their seat and back again as quickly as possible, need a full crowd for second half kick off!
  12. To compare Solano and Milner is ludicrous. One is a footballer and one is a tryer. Of course we need better than Milner. He probably holds the most important position in the 4-3-3. He's ok, just nowhere near Solano standard. Or several others we have had. If he reaches Keith Gillespies standard between Jan 1995 and May 1997 I will be happy . Can't see him doing it, simply because he doesn't have the attributes. Don' t want him to be that s****. Maybe he could have one good game if we ever get to play Barcelona again by putting a couple of decent balls in the box and live off that for the rest of his career. Worked for Gillespie. Oh dear. Just think when people talk about wasters in the Premier League, he was our original Wasn't Gillespie an irreplaceable component in the title-challenging 95/96 side, at something like 20 years old? Didn't the wheels fall off when he got injured? Aye, Phil Neville cost us the league by injuring Gillespie. Can't remember much about his performances during 96/97, though I'd guess that they must have been fairly productive considering the amount of goals we scored depsite Ginola's second season syndrom. All went wrong after the Barca game, unitl then he was a damn good right winger
  13. I put mine on the first page, then commented on some others. As most people joining the thread at this late stage won't read that far back I'll repeat them! (1) Allow at least one radio station to broadcast games over the Internet or make World worth subscribing too for non-local fans to get access to games (2) Scrap match day programmes and produce a weekly NUFC mag/paper full of analysis, stories, interviews, fan opinion etc. Bring down the Chronicle at the same time! (3) Reissue the Grandad Collar shirt, either as a commemorative issue after this shirt or a retro option. (not my idea, just commented on) (4) Like the idea of NUFC TV if feasible (again not my idea) (5) Love the idea of clubshops in the Airport/Central Station (6) Agree with tarting up the outside of SJP, maybe lighting up the outside for evening games, make the ground even more opposing than it is already (7) Bring back Local Hero
  14. Isn't Turkey part in Europe (Istanbul is the only city to cover two continents is it not?) If you allow Cyprus the choice then Turkey should also be afforded the same luxury
  15. Derby - win West Ham - Anhiliation Arsenal - really don't know, depends on Wengerbus's policy for the cup this year Citeh - If they don't win their next game we'll win this. Citeh need to stop the little losing streak they've got going quickly or it could be a tricky season still, Svens a good manager when things are going ok, but I'm not convinced about how good he is at turing things around Everton - Win - we're due one against them!
  16. I hope you're wrong there, i really do. "I'd rather Newcastle won the toss than England won the world cup" = cretins. Newcastle win the FA Cup or European Cup or England win the World Cup? Toon all the way I'm afraid (plus England games bore me now, so predictable) [sigh] Why the sigh? The toon takes up a lot more of my life than the England team, so why shouldn't I prefer to see Newcastle win a cup than England?
  17. Wasn't she in some band/group or something? Dunno, just remember she was a looney drama teacher
  18. Anyone here used to go to Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham? Drama Teacher Kathy White-Webster used t odate Knopflor, Romeo and Juliette was written for her. She ended up with the head teacher. Shame
  19. So ...... World cup final England vs Nigeria Owen got injured in the semis, Barton is still doing time, Milner overlooked for Lennon and Taylor's leg fell off after trying to play 90 minutes with a double break. - therefore no Toon presence Oba up front for Nigeria (Babayaro is injured obviously) Who do you want to win?
