Steve McClaren

I was initially not against McClaren, but as time goes on it's glaringly obvious that this job is far too big for him and he's well out of his depth.

When he joined he talked up the style of play, the kind of football we wanted to see, edge of the seat stuff. It hasn't materialised because he has no idea how to implement it successfully.

The players must take their fair share of the blame, especially away from home - Wijnaldum and Shelvey in particular are like f***ing Jekyll and Hyde at home and away. McClaren, also must take some blame for his decision making, not making substitutions at crucial times and well, just not being good enough. The largest portion of the blame, however, lies firmly at Charnley/Ashley's door. Why the f***, when (belatedly) shelling out as much as we have over the last two windows, did they not deem it appropriate to hire a progressive, exciting manager god only knows.

Could that not be something to do with the manager and his tactics?  Most the team are guilty of this.  Hence the shambolic away record, where we've only managed to score 7 goals and get a whopping 7 points.

I thought everyone apart from Lee Ryder knew this?

This guy gets it:

Newcastle attitudes and platitudes are cause for concern as battle looms

I do wonder whether Charnley and co ever read the press and think to themselves that the reporter has a point.  Or do they just believe McClaren when he tells them it will all be OK in the end.

And because Charnley, Ashley and Bishop are not football people, are they able to spot the signs that the coach s struggling?

One for the list of baffling shit under Ashley really. It's mental.

Lose to Stoke and fantasy island heed is gone, Ashley has invested more than ever this season and we are no further forward than last year, there's blokes waiting in the wings with much better records than him so I think he's gone

Is there though? I'm not so sure how many of the names linked would be willing to work here under the fat man's conditions.

Its a lot more difficult to turn down a job where players are signed for you when its Man U or Liverpool who are on the end of the phone compared to what Charnley would be sprouting.

I still think as things stand, moyes, Rodgers and Benitez won't have any better club's to go to than us

Benitez did a fantastic job at Chelsea and Napoli, didn't do too badly at Real, he'll have far better options that he'll turn down that would be better than joining us.

The first two, maybe.  Benitez?  No way.  He's managed top/elite clubs and done pretty well, everywhere he's been.  Why would he decide to manage a team, that looks odds on to get relegated?

Where are these better options? Dont remember too many top clubs without a manager right now which was the actual point made. Not that i think he would come here at all like.

There was talk of him being interested in the job, a while back wasn't there?  Was it when Pardew left?

I know a lot of Liverpool fans that say his football is pretty dull.  But I'd love him here and he supposedly wants to return to the Prem.  I just don't think he would come here.  Not this season, anyway.  Probably not ever.

A lot of managers (domestic and foreign) want to work in the Premier League.  Take out the top clubs like Man Utd and Chelsea who will attract a higher level of manager, there are few options available.  How many jobs are likely to come up in the near future?  West Brom and Norwich perhaps.  We are a more attractive option that those clubs despite the owner - especially for foreign managers who often work in similar conditions.

The trouble is the manager you would go for now or who would be interested in the job now is not necessarily the same one as in the Summer.  There isn't time to build something - you need an immediate impact.  Can a foreign manager unfamiliar with the Premier League do that?
